Half and half scarves

Post by Bin Ont Turf » Sun Feb 05, 2017 3:07 pm

What's it all about?

I can understand say Sutton United fans wanting a half and half scarf when they meet Arsenal in the FA Cup, even maybe Lincoln fans against us (less likely) but I've seen a few pictures today of Arsenal fans (grown men) with half and half scarves at yesterdays match against Chelsea. What's that all about?

It would be a bit like some of our lot having half and half scarves when we play PNE.

Surely a programme or match ticket is enough of a souvenir?

I think the appeal is for neutral fans from overseas who want to watch a Premier League game, but don't necessarily support either of the two teams that are playing.

You could argue why do away fans buy a programme? To read the 3 or 4 pages about our players that we already know about

I tend to read 70% of the programme if I'm honest.
Who sponsors which player etc doesn't get much of a look.

Half and half scarves have been around for a long time haven't they?

They used to usually have your team and whichever knobhead Glasgow club you had leanings towards.

Must be making a mint on these at Old Trafford then?

The ones for our game at Old Trafford this season will be a collectors item - the Burnley half had the Villa badge on them.

There for tourists only. I don't believe any real fan would want to wear one.

There were some with quite a good image of Dyche on. I hate them myself but nearly got one at Old Trafford as I was in the home end. A compromise for me to show my colours and not get chucked out.

But I decided against.

Plenty of east-asian tourists wearing them for our visit to the Emirates a couple of weeks ago.

. finds the thought of a half and half Burnley and Lincoln scarf amusing. He would never have believed anyone had they told him it would happen some 25 years ago when he was watching this fixture in the 4th division.

I think when Blackburn used to have a football side they played in a half and half shirt.

I was given one at the Barcelona v Sampdoria European Cup Final at Wembley in 1992 (when Everton's current manager scored the winner!). I put it away in a drawer then and have never worn it. Disliked the idea then, absolutely loathe them now.

Anyone tempted to buy one of these hideous creations should never buy one on the way into the ground. At Stamford Bridge, the Chelsea / Burnley half-and-halves were £10 before the game and all the chancers and Del Boys by Fulham Broadway tube station after the game were desperately trying to offload their unsold stock for £5 and later £3! Hilarious.

And it's generally colder once the game has finished.

Some bloke tried to sell some to us for £3 each after the playoff final v Sheff Utd. We all said no, but he gave his entire stock to us for free anyway. I have absolutely no idea where mine is now. I don't think I ever wore it.

Now I am going back maybe 7 or 8 years but the guys who sell them in Dublin buy them for 89cent each , so you work that profit out , ohhh in that time they were sold for €10 each .

I have to admit that I bought one when I went to Anfield for our league game 2 years ago. It was for a friend of mine here who follows both us and Liverpool.

Has anybody got a USA / Mexico scarf?

If so does it have a wall down the middle?

I've got a UK/EU one.

Got to keep it flat though, or the water in the channel that separates the two halves keeps running out.

Can't see the problem with them. People get them for so many different reasons.

I saw a dad & lad buying one outside Turf the other week
Heard the lad, aged about 7, say to his dad it'll go on the wall with the rest of them when he gets home.

Apparently he's been getting them from every game this season

Only understand it for neutrals, especially the foreign football tourists we see at away games in the EPL.

Personally if we get Real Madrid in The Champions League in 2 years time then I'll buy a program at The Bernabeu, but an item of support for them that dilutes the Burnley, No Nay Never!
