Maybe you could ring the ticket office on Monday and see it if they can do anything?

If you don't have any joy I would ask a steward on the day. Just explain you feel it would be safer in the upper tier for your young lad. There's plenty of spare seats up there and stewards are generally helpful if you're not giving them grief.

The same idea crossed my mind to be honest ... or see if they'd be happy for me to just swap tickets with 2 with tickets in top tier

I can't see why the ticket office couldn't swap the tickets. It would be the same number going etc
