RVN - why??

Post by burnley007 » Fri Jul 12, 2024 8:42 am

Ruud has been confirmed at Utd.
He's just another coach.
Why? Why turn down a manager's job to be a nobody?? Bizarre decision.

money and ambition to be the next utd manager but you think why not give it a go at Burnley and if he did well he might still get the chance at utd or another club but it's all about timing...

FWIW I heard we turned him down at second interview stage.

I was told he wanted far too much control of budget, signings, coaching staff and we wanted to do things differently.

Real shame in my view as I’d have loved RVN here. A risk but one I would have taken.

Was he actually ever offered the Burnley job though?

They seemed happy for VK to do all that

Well I don’t personally think he had the control people think, but they very definitely have taken a different direction now.

Indeed...lets hope the new approach works, or do they revert to the Kompany model for the next man

It’s just lazy journalism saying he turned us down. He probably wasn’t aligned with what the board wanted as mentioned above.

Nearly every one of the applicants we rejected have said they turned us down, it maintains their brand.

And its probable that RVN is now accountable on a day to day basis to Steve McClaren who has been made "senior coach". How inspiring for him

Can you imagine if we'd have signed him ? It would be the Kompany circus again, camera crews following the ex Man U idol, all about him etc, Parker though is quite refreshing head down and working, little outside noise and distraction.

No doubt his agent peddled the idea that he turned us and other clubs down in favour of Man U. Makes him look good in the eyes of United fans and shows the world that there was lots of interest in him.

In reality United was possibly the only offer he’s had all summer.

Out of the names we were linked with I could never really fathom why people were so excited by RVN. He had one OK season at PSV, fell out with the owners and players and quit.

Maybe he's more comfortable in a supporting role rather than being the top man while still earning plenty!

Or perhaps he failed at the interview with Mr Pace...........if any such thing ever took place!
