Bogey teams
I believe a run of success or failure against an opponent has a carry over effect.
As we, hopefully, have turned a corner against Boro(won2,drew1). A victory in the replay would give us similar against the Mackems.
A decent round 4 draw might fire them up for a big night.

Re: Bogey teams
If you are saying that a good result against a team we usually lose against portends a good run of results then please look at our results in 1961-62 season until and after Villa away where we won when usually we hadn't and then only won one game until the end of the season.

I was being specific to that side, mdd.mdd2 wrote:If you are saying that a good result against a team we usually lose against portends a good run of results then please look at our results in 1961-62 season until and after Villa away where we won when usually we hadn't and then only won one game until the end of the season.
before the Mackem league game I read we had only beaten them once in 19. If we win the replay the tide could be turning.

Used to be Peterborough but we then put 4 past them. Was Wolves for a long time but not anymore. Now looks like W Brom away.

Re: Bogey teams
The NorthEast has been a poor hunting ground for us, as long as I can remember. Being raised up there I went to most matches. Never seen us get anything at St James, only the 3-3 draw at the Boro and two wins at Roker, 4-0(65-66) and 1-0(72-73).
Even saw us lose twice at Roker after being 3-1 up.

Seen us win twice at Boro (82/83 at Ayresome & 11/12 at Riverside), only once at Sunderland (72/73) but have seen us win three times at Newcastle (69/70, 73/74 & 75/76).minnieclaret wrote:The NorthEast has been a poor hunting ground for us, as long as I can remember. Re: Bogey teams
Some clubs mentioned here:
Wycombe - never beaten them away
Cardiff - not beaten home or away since April 2007 and not away since March 2000
Leicester - not beaten home or away since August 2010.
Peterborough - only ever won there once (1995/96) and I missed it.

I could well have been playing, 69/70?ClaretTony wrote:Seen us win twice at Boro (82/83 at Ayresome & 11/12 at Riverside), only once at Sunderland (72/73) but have seen us win three times at Newcastle (69/70, 73/74 & 75/76).
Surprised we won there in 73/74 as that's the season they cost us an FA Cup final, European football and the Texaco Cup. No idea why I missed it, possibly work.

Re: Bogey teams
Beat them 2-1, re-arranged midweek game. The 75/76 win was our last top flight win until we beat Man U at home in 2009 and our last away win until we beat Hull later in that 2009/10 season.minnieclaret wrote:I could well have been playing, 69/70?

The 69/70 season, my first visit, was 1-0 with a Bobby Moncur own goal. It bounced in off his arse.

Re: Bogey teams
Leyton Orient away was always a miserable experience and both Bury and Rochdale used to enjoy battering their 'once great' neighbour...
