Dario Gradi is proving to be a tough act to follow, isn't he?

Only Crewe's continued reluctance to sack managers has kept him in post this long - practically every other club would have fired him either during or at the end of last season.
Moves Sean one more place up the list of longest serving PL/FL managers.

Does that make SD the 6th longest serving manager behind Wenger, Bentley at Morecambe, Tisdale at Exeter,Ardley at AFC Wimbledon and Eddie Howe? Both Ardley and Howe were appointed earlier in October 2012 than SD

He's up to seventh, not sixth.
Arsene Wenger (Arsenal) 30th September 1996
Paul Tisdale (Exeter) 26th June 2006
Jim Bentley (Morecambe) 13th May 2011
Gareth Ainsworth (Wycombe) 24th September 2012
Neal Ardley (Wimbledon) 10th October 2012
Eddie Howe (Bournemouth) 13th October 2012
Sean Dyche (Burnley) 30th October 2012
Steve Davis was fourth having been appointed on 10th November 2011.

The first one, the one we signed from Crewe. He's been manager there for over five years.

Think he's done well to hang on so long. DG casts a big shadow there and I suspect does more than a little meddling in team affairs still. Crewe are a club that need to re-look at their method. Gone are the days when they could pick up rejects from the big clubs for peanuts and work with them to make them the players the scouts had seen in the first place. The whole of football is now looking for the kind of kid that was dished up to Crewe for them to make money from.

Think it's a very different and dark shadow that's cast by Gradi now.

It's interesting elwa how things change and affect clubs adversely. Crewe's system worked perfectly for years but for a number of reasons can no longer work. If you go back some 60 years when we really set up our youth system, a different idea to Crewe but that worked too and we were the best int the country at it. Other clubs caught on to us and followed us. Our time was then up as leading the way with an idea.

Some funny goings on at Crewe this last 12 months. Changing coaches and moving away from some long serving backroom staff. [Edit: just to comment that this is nothing to do with the other more prominent revelations. This is purely football related.]
I've heard a few other things about their future but that is for another thread on another day.
Who do they have in mind then?

Stan Ternent would be a good short term appointment to steady the ship.

With the recent revelations, I'm surprised Gradi is still at the club I'll be honest.

Gradi has survived worse than this over the years. He will be one of the last to be thrown to the dogs Sydney. 'Football' holds him in very very high regard. For years I've thought that a lot of football's worship was unmerited, but there you go. For legal reasons I'm not going to rake up old allegations or investigations but for much of the 90's he was considered by many the Teflon Don of football. People closer to the club no doubt tell you the reasons he wasn't given the Burnley job when he was considered a shoe in for several years. I can only conjecture and form my own opinions around snippets I've heard.

So even after the revelation at Chelsea that he went round to a families house to help shush up an allegation and he's still going to be one of the last to be throw to the wolves?
Pretty much sums up one of the main problems with it all.

Ainsworth's job was only made permanent in November 2012 until then he was there in a temporary capacity;but I suppose the vast vast majority of managers are, by the length of their tenure, temporary.

So does that make Sean 6th or 7th?

Was in the same year at secondary school as Gareth Ainsworth. He wasn`t a bad player at all. A shame he was a Rovers fan.

I liked SD in our defence.
Didn't he partner Steve Gardner at Wembley against Wolves?

Yes!!!! We weren`t really in any of the same classes but we were in the choir together - Chris of course did many a solo and was brilliant in `Daughters of Pendle`. I hope he is well. Please pass on my regards. Chris was possibly in many classes with Gareth Ainsworth and good friends maybe.

Go on it is late so I'll say it...
I wonder what the 'Fathers of Pendle' had to say about that

Don`t you mean `Pendle`? It`s impossible to have Fathers of Pendle. Regardless, wouldn`t they be the biological and non-biological grandfathers of the daughters of Pendle (their father). I doubt they would give two hoots!
