Singer-songwriter Peter Sarstedt, best known for the song Where do you go to my Lovely?, has died at the age of 75, his family has said.
The song topped the UK singles charts in February 1969 and remained number one for four weeks.
It was number one in many other countries and won the Ivor Novello award for best song composition.
He died peacefully after a six-year battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a family statement said.
The statement added that his closest family were "with him to the last" and that many would miss his songs and his music.
Where do you go to my Lovely?, a song about a girl born in poverty who becomes a member of the European jet-set, was replaced as number one by Marvin Gaye's I Heard it Through the Grapevine.
Other Sarstedt songs included Beirut, Take Off Your Clothes, I am a Cathedral and Frozen Orange Juice - the latter reaching number 10 in the charts.
His music reached new audiences when 'Where do you go to my Lovely?' was included in the Wes Anderson films Hotel Chevalier and The Darjeeling Limited, which were both released in 2007..BBC. [16.00....8/1/2017]

Great song which reached No.1 in 1969. His brother is Eden Kane who also had several hit records,
RIP Peter.

I always thought this was a decent pop song for the time.

My wife is thankful he can only die once - she just received a full rendition, which I admit must have been painful for her. It's one of those songs I adored, learned the lyrics to, and never forgot them over 47 years.
Wherever you're going to, Peter Sarsted, RIP

My wife has just done the same as you but sounds like I was a more appreciate audience. Made me laugh how she was word perfect on a relatively obscure song but couldn't remember where she'd put her keys 5 minutes ago.
RIP

Fairly iconic record but really daft lyrics. She apparently keeps her Rolling Stones records in an apartment with a friend of Sasha Distel and she wears a topless swimsuit that gives her an even suntan on her back and, funnily enough, on her legs. This coupled with the fact that she was sent a racehorse for Christmas by the Aga Khan which is where the nervous funny laugh comes in - hahahaha hahahaha!

It must have been a different horse as the song was written in 1969.

Wasn't the song loosely based around the young Sophie Loren? They used to wheel him out on various cheesy Euro tv shows up until fairly recently I think.
