According to the SSN yellow bar, bid increased to £5 million for Snodgrass

I'd pay 10.

I think Snodgrass is exactly the sort of player we need and if I were Dyche
I'd go in for him and offer 6/7m if not 8 and, if really pushed then, as ClaretMoffitt has said 10m.
He's the one player who could really make the difference for us.

He is the sort of player we need - just one problem, i cant see him leaving Hull for the likes of us - suspect he's looking for a WBA/Stoke type of club and £60k per week in the process.

Why is the fee so low? Surely with a year and a half on his contract he's worth around£10-15 million. Or am I missing something?

Geez, can't believe how some think of ourselves.
We're a fine Club...financially sound, passionate, hard working and fair spirited in play. We're mid table and doing well.
I'd pay £10million for a striker like Snodgrass. Improve the away results and who knows what is achievable.

Its West Ham trying to get him on the cheap, so they're going to make multiple bids with smallish increases till they either get their man or unsettle him so much it effects his form.
Remember the grief our board got last summer for increasing their bids in small amounts?
Same going on here.

I presume he's referring to an assumption on his part that Hull won't wish to sell him to us if they see us as a potential relegation candidate. Personally I think he has a point and don't seem him as a realistic option for that and other reasons.

Yes, we are all these things - but we arent on the same level as the 2 teams i mentioned - either on the pitch or financially.
He'll be on a packet at Hull, and i'm pretty certain at his age he'll be looking at an established premier league club.
If we play our cards right, we'll be on a par with these 2 in a couple of years... as it stands now, we are not.

So Snodgrass wants to play for Hull because they are 20th in the table with 13 points. He's facing Championship football next season at the moment.

But he wont sign a new contract, therefore almost forcing them to either take a hit on him, or sell him this window at a reduced value...
This is the problem with this Bosman ruling, the clubs are buggered and all the power is in the players hands..
I'd do cartwheels if he signs for us - really would, just realistically cant see it happening...

I think what is being suggested is that if he moves in January - and it's the club's decision not Snodgrass' though a player can obviously apply pressure - he is more likely to be sold to a club that Hull consider less likely to be in direct competition with them.

I think it's pretty obvious what he means, we're a newly promoted side currently going well but our away form is concerning and it only takes one little blip and we could be in trouble. Hull are similar in that respect too, they are newly promoted and with a good run could turn it around. I doubt financially we're paying the amounts required to seriously tempt wanted players from PL rivals especially ones like Snodgrass who are being chased by other more stable PL clubs who will offer bigger wages. Btw Snodgrass isn't a striker, he's a wide midfield player, it's like saying Arfield is a striker.

We should be participating here. At best we're successful, at worst, we've provided nuisance value, and upped the amount to be paid for WHU

I think it is 18 months. It seems that Hull had an option to extend his contract by a year and have exercised that, even though he doesn't want to stay.

I'm almost sure Hull triggered a clause in his contract a few weeks ago (I believe they did it with 5 players) which added an extra 1 year deal onto his contract and he had no say in the matter.

Hull had an option in the contract of a 12 month extension and have used it. I did read somewhere on here though that he said he knew nothing about it.

Yeah that's what I thought, but the bids are so derisory, it's as though they are bidding on a player who's out of contract in the summer

The fee is actually £15 million. West Ham are contributing £5m, with the taxpayer picking up the tab for the rest.

I'd hardly class the madhouse known as West Ham as stable.
We all know Arfield is a CM.

West Ham are certainly a stable PL club, they've been awful this season and won't be near the relegation zone.

Not a chance we'll sign him if West Ham are after him as well. They'll offer wages we can't even consider offering. In fairness I hope they sign him, Hull are down without him.

He won't be coming here for all sorts of reasons.
Best scenario for us is that WHU (and / or other clubs) keep lifting the offer incrementally and offer him a big pay increase. Snodgrass makes it pretty clear that he wants to leave - especially as he "Knew nothing" about the clause allowing them to extend his contract.
Faced with an unhappy player, and a good offer on the deadline day they sell him, but it's too late to sign any kind of replacement.
tbh though, if Hull have any understanding of how it works nowadays with player and agent power, they will already be looking for a replacement on the basis that it will be hard to keep him if he is determined to go.

I'd be very surprised if Hull get rid, knowing it'll almost certainly condemn them to relegation.
Dale Stephens put in a transfer request on deadline day as it was clear he wanted to join us but Brighton wouldn't budge. The value of being in the Prem is of far more value than a few million for one player.

If Snodgrass "knew nothing" about the clause he's either not the sharpest DIY implement or his agent forgot to tell him. Bit of a big one to drop if you're desperate to get away from a club.

Agreed, but if he makes it clear he's not interested in playing for them and wants to move on, it puts them in a v difficult position. Not good for morale within the squad, and he might go into a "long sulk". I think Hull will have a big decision to make here, though as you imply, financially they could afford to keep him there and allow him to run down his contract.

I think we almost all agree he would be a good addition.
So by entering the bidding war means we could possibly get him, though again we think that's not likely to happens but it would
Mean WH have to at least pay the going rate of over 10 million I f Hull accept.
Down side could be WH then doing the same to us.
I think we should bid for him between 8-10 and just hope we end up with tit from r tat bidding wars

We can't compete in a bidding war with WHU. They will offer him at least double in wages etc. what we would be able to even consider.

If they're offering £5m for Snodgrass, which is still surely still less than half of his value, I wouldn't be so sure about what West Ham can and can't afford.

I agree, but we if we offer 10 million for rxample, they are not going to accept a bid from WH for 5 are they. they would use morevof thier budget to get him.

As per last summer when Mr Gold said his club was no longer competing for players with "the likes of Burnley and Hull".
"The old West Ham used to compete with teams like Burnley and West Brom for players, which gave us a better chance of signing our targets.
“Nowadays we are competing with Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United or Manchester City. For them, resources are virtually unlimited."
Are the above all down the bottom?
They signed a stack of players in the summer who are now deemed to be not "good enough". My heart bleeds for him.

Did you think that when he turned his back on Leighton Baines in the recent game against Everton and let him cross for their equaliser, costing Hull two points? As someone texted me that night, just why he is not the sort of player Dyche would sign.

No it's not. Snodgrass would never accept the terms that we would be able / willing to offer him. It's not just about 2 clubs agreeing a fee, it's the agent and Snodgrass wanting to achieve the best deal for them. I'm not even sure that we would be able to offer him much better terms than he is currently on at Hull. (Anyone have any idea what he is on at Hull?)

If we're going to dismiss a winger because of one piece if shonky defending we may as well not bother.

By most accounts Robert Snodgrass got Man of the Match against Everton and scored a fantastic free kick. He's also scored 7 goals and got 2 assists this season in the premier league. In a pretty awful Hull side. So he'd be our top scorer, and joint second in the assists table behind Defour.
Not to pick on Boyd or Arfield as I like them both, but between them they have 2 goals and 0 assists. To say he's not for us is to say we're not interested in signing demonstrably better players.

Snodgrass is one of the best players in the bottom third of the league, no question about it.
£5m is a steal.

Already been pointed out that we're not writing off Arfield for a similarly crap piece of defending that directly cost a goal, but it's a fairly odd reason not to want an attacking player anyway. Presumably Dyche would drum into him the importance of tracking back and stopping crosses, even though Boyd only does half of that job anyway.
Pretty clear that a player like Snodgrass would be a large upgrade on our current wide options. Snodgrass and Gudmundsson wide starts to look solidly Premier League to me. Arfield and Boyd does not.
