Reading Murdoch's rag this morning, I noticed Newcastle are after Derby's Tom Ince. Bearing in mind Derby are still in with a good shout of the play-offs (I know, they'll bottle it again in a month or two), it would be pretty crazy of them to sell him to a rival. Similarly, Snodgrass to WHU or, hopefully, us.
I got thinking about a precedent for such a move and we were involved in a pretty spectacular deal, flogging Dave Thomas to QPR in October, 1972.
By the end of the season, of course, we were Div 2 Champions with QPR runners-up just one point behind so we got away with it. It was a good move for Thomas, he went on to play for England a few times before moving on to Everton amongst others.
Was there some kind of agenda to that deal or did we, as we often did then, just desperately need the money ?
