Soft southerners taking a pasting

Kent is taking a right battering from snow and gales this evening (even taking into account our 'softy southerner' factor, it's still pretty grim). How's the weather up there in the freezing north tonight?

Lived in NE Sussex for a while as a kid and remember some whopping snow drifts at times (mainly in winter), or maybe I was quite small....

Harrow is clear of snow just a very rainy day with some light sleet during late evening.

No doubt it will freeze later and be icy in the morning.

Stay safe everybody, you don't want to end up in A & E given the well publicised problems with the NHS.

I well remember the winter of 1962/63 when the snow in London was 2 feet deep and the freeze lasted for 2 months.

Someone has got to state: "What, only 2 feet deep and only lasted 2 months."

Snow drifts in N.E Lancs were over 6 feet (and more) - and snow lasted from Boxing Day until Easter.

But, I'm also now living "down south" - the weather is always "much gentler" down here.

Wrap up warm.

Remember to wear gloves and take a brolly with you if you go out. And walk around puddles. Good luck folks.

I was referring to lying snow as opposed to drifting snow. Across southern and south west England the snow drifts were measured at over 20 feet deep in places. Various websites covering that winter, that was most severe across southern and south west England, do report that snow in Manchester was as deep as 6 inches in places.

Its almost like winter has shifted along a couple of months over the last 5-10years.

I used to expect this weather in October/November but I cant remember the last really bad December

The usual media overreaction when London and the home counties get a blast of winter. Even though the north (Scotland and high levels excepted) is relatively trouble free from snow they insist it is a UK wide disaster. When it only affects the North it barely gets a mention.

Further proof. Southerners are soft! :D

They have finally got a prediction right..well sort of anyway. The forecaster guy from the obscure weather agency they always interview will finally have guessed correctly too. He was always bound to get it right one day.

Location

Jeremy Corbyn's brother, Piers Corbyn is one of those 'forecaster guys from the obscure weather agency'.

They will not. There is a serious risk of a repetitive strain injury and drinking Ovaltine is a definite sign of dementia. Meanwhile they'll be fretting about their pensions and when will the FTSE collapse.

Don't forget to take your coat off when inside, or you will not feel the benefit when you go out ! ! :D

Light dusting here on outskirts of Padiham - better not snow too much in the night as new TV being
delivered in the morning.

Having lived in Kent for 48 years I assume that I am a "soft southerner" - having said that me and the wife went for a walk on the beach this evening and it was a bit wild and windy. No snow in our town (Herne Bay) and it was chilly but not nearly as cold as some of the winters I remember from my childhood in Colne.

Tide was quite high and the wind was whipppng the sea up - Herne Bay and Whitstable both have history of flooding but I live 300ft above sea level so should be okay !

On a big hill within the Arctic Circle you see.

You're practically on the French Riviera now. :)

On the other side of the south (SW- the better side!) we had quite a blizzard, at least an inch.

I've just got back from the local newsagents to clear their stock of bread and milk. Can never be too safe.

Prior to retiring last May I worked for a company with several partner sites in Kent. Every year we had calls to cover orders because vehicles couldn't get anywhere near their sites when the snow came.
