Joey Barton tonight has said: "I just love playing for this football club and intend to enjoy every minute of it because I've realised just by not being here how special it is."

I managed to congratulate him after his warm down, he was buzzing and had a terrific smile on his face; great bloke.

Absolutely not, he'll be here now just as long as we want him to be here.

We only need him to help us stay up this season.
After that he can take whatever offer he likes elsewhere, or move into a player coach role with us wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

He can stay here as long as he's playing well, scoring goals and inspiring the younger players around him!

I think until a different manager is here. He's playing for the club don't get me wrong, but he's also very much playing for the manager.

Reading his book, which is a great insight into his make up, and I think he's definitely management material and I wouldn't be worried if he cut his teeth with us under guidance from SD in a coaching role.

Is it wrong for a near 40yr old bloke to have a man crush?

I know players say things about a club whilst they are there to "get onside" of those fans but with Joey you can tell that he is becoming one of "us"

That is down to both SD and us wanting him

"I've realised just by not being here how special it is"

Something that us Clarets have known for ever!

Sean Dyche has done that. Dyche is the SPECIAL one !

Joseph Barton. Burnley player.

I hope there will be plenty of humble pie eaten by those who said he couldn't cut it in the PL. Those who said he was spent. Those who said we were better off without him, especially after his bust up in Scotland.

He's a fine player, real quality and a leader on the pitch.

Delighted he's back.

It's always nice to hear such things from players. I still have to wonder why he decided to leave for Rangers though, especially since he'd already made it clear how much he was enjoying his time here last season. Still, he's back and what a spectacular return - a massive goal and a massive 3 points.

Its great to have him back to. The goal he scored yesterday could be worth quite a few bob. I could see that Joey was absolutely buzzing at the end of the game.

What a feeling it must be to score the winning goal in front of 20,000 of your fans, in your 1st game for the club you love.

he answers that in his book, Joey is always seeking challenges , its part of his dna ,he's very much on a journey , and i think hes realised now that that journey can continue in many different ways.and that the burnley chaptor is far from finished. He will end up coaching at the club im pretty sure of that

Surely the greatest challenge of all would have been keeping Burnley in the Premier League? I'll always find his Rangers move a little strange - it may have helped sell some more books or something. Either way, it didn't work out and I am happy he's back (particularly after that vital goal).

Re coaching, I can see that. But I can also see him becoming a pundit. He's got options at least!

I saw his TV interview immediately after the game and thought it was utterly from the heart. He basically said he should never have left and he has found a home at Burnley.

He is a huge asset to our team.

If anyone had told me a couple of years ago that there would be a thread on the Burnley message board extolling the virtues of Joey ******* Barton and that I'd agree with every word of it, I'd have thought they were mental.

I just try to roll with it. He's a rather complex individual to say the least but I look at how the other players react to him. There was a shot of him on the bench sat between Jon Flanagan and Sam. They were all laughing about something or other. After the goal Steven Ward was chasing after him trying to catch him. Wardie had a huge smile on his face. Yes, okay, you can say that the players don't care who scores and that's true but also how it should be. But Ward is not very demonstrative and although he's a "quiet man" I suspect he's a bloke who you don't muck around. Probably reading too much into it but it was just a moment that seemed to say a lot.

Sorry if this has already been posted but this is Mr Dyche's reaction.

Felt we looked a lot more stable once he came on. If ever a player was made for a club it's got to be Joey. Welcome Home.

His passing was absolutely terrible! Gave the ball away far to many times! But such an important goal.

What about the through ball to Boyd in the last minute ?

His last goal at deepdale just about confirmed promotion now this very similar free kick has surely guaranteed survival. The reaction from the crowd was just like when Blake scored against Manu.

Joey was warming up right in front of us, Bob Lord Stand, and spent a good 5 minutes chatting with Jay Rod.

I'd take everything Joey says with a pinch of salt. He works the crowd and came unstuck at Rangers with some of his verbal showmanship.
If as CT says he's here for as long as we want him I feel it's probably because he's run out of options.
Time to let his feet do the talking and show what he still has left.
I would never be naive enough to believe what CT says.If something better comes along he'll take it and make some excuse with people falling over themselves on this board to make it sound like it was a noble decision.
Before the replies come please note this is about him as a person judged on his career. As A footballer playing for Burnley I obviously want the best on the pitch and he has my 100 percent support.

I am afraid i have to agree in some aspect with cblantfanclub.

It's all well and good telling our own media department he loves playing for us, but he doesn't come out and say this to any other media outlet, does he?

It's not a criticism by the way, he's a smart guy, and he knows what people want to hear. I am very, very happy he is here.

He said on BBC radio that he enjoys playing at Burnley. He was pleased to be back and praised the club highly. He mentioned the new facilities at Gawthorpe and how the last but on promotion paid for that. He mentioned Heaton among others for securing the win yesterday. We need as many good midfield players as we can get. He is one. Adds gamecraft, skill and leadership. I am delighted he is back.

I thought the goal yesterday epitomised what Barton will give us. Technically, it was a decent free kick - he hit it pretty much where he wanted to - but there are plenty better. Where it was brilliant was as a pure piece of football intelligence. He read what Forster would expect (he might have noticed that Forster moved really early on Defour's earlier in the half). He spotted the possibility offered by the confusion in the Southampton wall as they tried to steal a yard off the ref, and took the chance to move Hendrick into the wall without it bring particularly obvious. And he played the percentages, correctly calculating that a deflection might help him.

That ability to see how things might unfold on a football pitch, and instinctively see and react to the possibilities that result, is a precious and rare gift. We saw it less flashily on another occasion when he got across the front post to cut out the sort of cross we have conceded goals from this season.

I thought in general play he looked a bit rusty and off the pace, but he's the best player we have at seeing both opportunity and danger and managing a game of football.

He will be important to us not only through his ability on the field, but his presence in the dressing room. He is a leader with experience, and I think we lacked a bit of that.
