Our defense looks well organised and is an effective unit. No doubt that Sean Dyches experience as a central defender has had a major impact on their success.

IMHO the interplay and linking between midfield and attack is poor and would definitely improve with a specialist 'attacking' coach.

Is it time for Mr Dyche to consider recruiting a proven 'midfield / attack' coach?

Our general football is poor but compared to other clubs our conversation rate with chances to goals must be sky high.

Our strength is being clinical and punishing any opposition mistakes.

By football I am meaning passing/possession game by the way.

I'm happy that we don't try and take most of the other sides on in a possession and passing game because it's more than likely we'd wouldn't be where we are now. That doesn't make us 'poor', which in my view is an unfortunate choice of word. If we can stay in the PL after this season and beyond we can adjust our style slowly as we add to the quality of our squad. '

In answer to the OP, no, but another top class attacking player would be nice.

It might be a harsh word but compared to every other side we are poor at it.

I think we agree other areas are our strength.

I agree. Possession stats seem to be touted as the most important thing in football. The opposition can have the ball as much as they want, but sticking it in the onion bag is what counts.

Our play is designed to suit our personnel and their capabilities not attempting to match the "tiki taka" and "total football" philosophy that is deemed so holy by the pundits.

Everton had just 29% possession against Man City. Everton won 4-0.

There was a Stat I saw today that indicated that out of 18 'great chances' created, we have converted 10 of them which is amongst the highest in the league.

One assumes that this is if a player is clean through or has a clear shot then that us a 'great chance' whereas Hendrick's and Defour's goals and both against Liverpool wouldn't count.

What this means is that we are clinical but need to create more chances.

No we don't. Dyche is trying to be effective with the players he has. We need other attacking players that are an upgrade. A pacy wide man and another striker are what we need.

I AM coming round to the idea though that if we did try and play a more pleasing to the eye style of football, within our budget restrictions, we would be nearer to the bottom 3 than where we are at present. Our strength, whether we like it or not, is our sheer bloody determination and togetherness.

Liverpool and United had combined something like 60 shots against us, But at least 45 of them went into orbit or nearer the corner flag. I would suggest they need the "attacking coach".

We won the Championship last year, and likely won few friends how we did it.
We're not doing it too bad so far this season.
Fluid, expansive footy is a bit beyond our pricerange as we stand.
We are what we are and, build on that.

The point I am trying to make is. Over the past two years the goalkeeper and the four regular defenders have improved their all round game quite significantly.

Unfortunately IMHO the regular midfielders and forwards haven't.

Can't criticise work rate and organisation which are second to none. My feeling is that the current team could be even better with a little more guile and composure around the opppsition box.

I reckon Marney, Arfield, Barnes, Vokes, Ings, Trippier going forward, have all significantly improved their game over the last four years while with Burnley. Hence, the coaching is fine.

No idea. Are you just looking for an attacking coach for away games?

You can't just look at a club and say "things aren't perfect, so replace somebody". Because if that was the case, we'd be replacing Sean Dyche. I think we're at the stage where things are improving, so rather than rock the boat, let's just keep things going as they are - upwards.

I am not proposing to replace anyone I am just suggesting that the addition of a top class attacking coach might have some benefits.

I do agree that rocking the boat at this moment in time might be too risky.

I remember watching Willy Morgan, Dave Thomas, Trevor Steven, Ralph chunky Coates, Leighton James etc etc

Maybe my expectations are just too high.

We were top goalscorers in the championship last season. And we have already scored 6 more goals at home this season than we did at home in all of the 14/15 prem season.

So for example Vokes hasn't improved despite the number of goals he's scored in the last 4 years? Or Arfield who has netted double figures and had numerous assists in his time here?
