The hoss-botherers are wetting themselves on the LT website and twitter over reports
that one Bob McNair, US businessman and sports club owner (Houston Texans, whoever they are)
is apparently going to make a bid to buy the superb Venkys out.

Looks like they've tried Indians, now it's cowboys!!

Anyone heard of this guy?

Has a net worth of just over 3 billion. If he does buy Rovers, they would be able to buy the league next year.

Quick look on Wiki says he's worth $3.3 billion and owns the Houstan Texans.

Tried to buy Reading and looked at buying Birmingham.

The liars will be nervous with this news.

New owners mean they would have to go on games that aren't in the Prem

This will show their true colours. Apparently they just want the Venkys out, become a fan and community run club and all that.

Then the first whiff of another foreign sugar daddy investor and they're getting all giddy again. Apparently he's shown interest in buying a Championship club before. Well, they better be quick, they'll be off his radar in another 5 months.

First of all, call someone from Texas a Yankee and you are liable to get shot. Seriously.

The Texans are a pretty well run NFL team. A few NFL owners like the spotlight on themselves and he does not fall into that boat.
Could be a sensible owner but won't be looking to go into debt/break the bank to support the team (i.e. he is not going to throw money at them).
For blackburn, any owner is better than their current owner.

He's 10 years older than Jack Walker was when he died. Somehow don't think he'll bequeath his millions to them. Short term fix at best. They're still doomed.

Wasn't it Houston Dynamo who Coyle managed? Didn't they get shut, or was it mutual consent?

You can imagine the response from the Yank when he is told they are one of the worst teams in division 2 with true attendances around the 7k mark, a wage bill currently around 130% of turnover and the owners would like £120 million upfront to cover their losses before we begin discussing a price for the club.

They could be struggling for players this weekend. Ben Marshall has been left out with Coyle saying he'll only use players totally committed. Do they have enough to field a team?

It was Houston Dynamo. He has twisted the tale a bit but let's just say they were keen on the parting of ways.

Houston Texans is an NFL team

Houston Dynamo is the ''soccer" team formerly managed by Coyle.

I lived in houston for two years but just prior to both the Texans and Dynamo expansion teams were created - I have no idea whether the two are linked to each other or as to whether McNair would know Coyle.

A couple of the window lickers from Blackburn have been insisting that the Venkys have to sell this summer.
I thought they'd licked something other the windows to say that, but maybe their dreams will come true.

Couple of things I don't understand with this link.

Club debts - rumoured to be approx £120-130 million.
Playing squad - nowhere near good enough to push for promotion will require heavy investment.
The fans - already proved what a miserable bunch of turds they are.

Probably looking at a minimum of £200 million to both buy the club AND sort the squad out.
You've got to be pretty daft to think that's a good idea, especially when you can get Sunderland for the same sort of money.

Amazed if they didn' enquiry about buying us.

No debt, 10th in PL, sound business model and a squad worth about £120m.

If they did the answer is of course no.

Sidney.....It's difficult to understand the logic of anyone even attempting to turn round the shambles that is Blackburn Rovers. Aside from the fact that they'll be required to cover the £120million owed to Venkys and other creditors, to actually transform the club into a going concern is no short-term task.

I think it's claretdom higher up the thread that points out the Wages to Turnover ratio is 130% (which is bad enough) but in truth that figure will now be some 200%, as Income is purely matchday receipts now (less than £10million) whilst Wages remain in excess of £20million.

With other operating costs they're staring down the barrel of a £20million loss this year which means a return to the transfer embargo under FFP which in turn makes improving the the squad even more difficult. So,all in all, a thankless task for anyone to take on even moreso if they start from a League One situation.

Surely the only way the chicken farmers can make t'roverrrs a viable proposition is to wipe out the £100 million or so debt. Oh, hang on a minute, isn't that exactly what the walkers trust did ? didn't they write off a similar figure.

They are as far removed from us as can possibly be, in terms of how to run a football club in an ethical and sustainable manner.

But it matters not, cos if this Texan bloke fancies tossing off zillions of dollars, the shadsworth chin dribbling collective will suddenly materialise from the rocks they've been hiding under, and start gobbing off at the earliest opportunity.

Venkys won't sell. They'll carry the debt just to avoid losing face.

The easy part for this zillionaire will be paying off the debt (If it's true he's worth £3.3 billion).

The hard part is turning the whole business on it's head so that the Income figure becomes the Wages figure and vice versa. Even if he enlists Trump as his adviser converting £8million Income into £20million, with Blackburn's apathetic support, will prove an impossible task.

EXTRACT FROM THE HOUSTON PRESS

Bob McNair is a failure of an owner, everything that Adams was accused of being. There’s no evidence that he cares about winning games or making the playoffs. He’s dumped high-profile, accomplished players when they became too expensive. Sure, he doesn’t fire coaches and staff quickly, but he hires people with no real accomplishments and seems not to care that they’re in over their heads.

And why should McNair care? He rakes in millions of dollars off the league’s TV contracts and off of merchandizing. Every single game is sold out (remember how, even when the Oilers were good, there was always the weekly question of whether the game would sell out and thus be on TV). As long as the games are sold out, as long as he gets the same cash for being on television as the Patriots and Packers do and makes money off of Aaron Rodgers jersey sales, there’s absolutely no reason for McNair to care about putting a winning product out on the field.

SOUNDS IDEAL TOO ME.
