Burnley v Blackburn at Wembley

Was talking with a group of friends at the pub earlier and the question come up 'Imagine if we ever played Blackburn at Wembley'

The police cant even cope when we play each other in the league so how would they manage in an FA Cup or Play Off final when lets say there would be 35k from each team there all travelling the same route,in the same service stations, pubs etc.

One of the lads was convinced they would play it at Old Trafford to save the hassle.

Also how many of us would be a bag of nerves ? I mean an FA Cup or Play Off final is bad enough but imagine against them !

Is there any previous examples of a derby game at Wembley where the 2 teams have to travel far ?

I for one would love to experience this happening (aslong as we won of course). We are both still in the cup so who knows

Newcastle/Sunderland. Villa/Brum. Cardiff/Swansea. Soton/Pompey. West Ham/Milwall.Sheff Utd/Wednesday. Bristol City/Rovers. Forest/Derby.

Not Derby's nearest rivals but Derby v Leicester 1994 first division play off final is the biggest Play off final Derby I can be be bothered to muster up at this hour.

No hatred between the fans though you often see fans sat side by side in club colours at Merseyside derbys.

Difference would be its wouldn't be Lancs police. London Met have a whole lot more experience in "bubble games"

Rovers are boycotting, remember.

There'd only be Burnley fans there.

All the Burnley fans to turf moor, packed up, sent to Wembley, wait in their seats for 24 hours and then let the Blackburn fans in.

A partition will be slid into the top of Wembley like a magician cutting his assistant, we wont even see each other.

Not sure how the match would play out.... It's a game of two halves.

I know you jest. However not sure anyone else remembers the old Cardiff ground where they decided to pull a screen down between the two sets of fans, in doing so cutting off a decent section of the pitch from anyone stood at the back!

Did result in a slightly amusing chant of ' we can't see you shagging sheep'.

I didn't remember that. That's crazy, was it to stop missiles?

It was a curtain. Presumably to stop things being thrown.

The only time they’ll see Wembley is in the Checkatrade Trophy.

It wouldn’t be that big a deal though, I can’t imagine the Met being such drama queens about it as Lancs police, they cope with bigger things without a fuss.

There’d only be a few flashpoints anyway. Most people are sound, we live and work with Ba***ds all the time. People only bounce around and mouth off when they’re safely behind a police line, on a coach or on the internet. Folk were a lot more subdued for that cup replay in 2005 when you had to take responsibility for yourself.

The Lancs police are working to stop crime, the Met are quite happy if you kill each other and they have a crime to solve. Self justification.

99% of fans would behave and have a bit of banter.

Same as our last visit against Sheff Utd.

Which bit of those motorways run through Norfolk, Devon or Kent? Trying to work out which the united fans would use.

Got a video at Ninian Park of that curtain. Its all a bit weird. Videos a bit painful though. We score. Our fans go nuts. They score straight from kick off as we celebrate.

Funnily enough I had a dream last night that we were playing Rovers at Wembley - the bad news is we lost 1-0 even though we had 24 chances on goal to their 6.

If only the Met Police had the resources to police this type of match. Heaven forbid if Chelsea play West Ham. Oh..................

Lots of coach trips for that one! Think of all the Southern based Clarets travelling to Burnley, so they can get back to London for the match!

Apparently it was down to a dispute between their board and ours in the 1990's. They complained that our facilities weren't up to standard. Which is a joke coz if you've ever been backroom at EdJelly park you'll know it's still stuck in the 19th century!
