Ake & Bournemouth.

I know that one person doesn't make a team, but does anyone think that Bournemouth will struggle now that Ake has returned to Chelsea. Good player and perhaps will be a massive miss for them. Thoughts.

Aren't they trying to get Terry in to replace him?
I think they know they're going to miss him, so I'd expect to see some efforts to replace him, but hopefully they don't.

Yes Eddie alluded to the defensive issues post match at Hull.
They are currently weak there and are missing Francis through suspension as well, he needs a class centre half in the window without doubt.
It could be argued it's Eddie's achilles heel, he hasn't yet turned out a consistently tight back line, that being said they will come out the right side of enough high scoring games at home to survive.

They've conceded three goals in seven of their last nine Premier League games

I didn't realise they had conceded so few, Tony, but wasn't the cup game the first without Ake?

Surprised they haven't bid for Keane or Tarkowski

I think you've misunderstood Tony's message - he is saying that in 7 of their last Premier League games they have conceded 3 goals in each, so 21 goals in total, the exceptions being clean sheets in the wins against Swansea and Leicester. Throw the Millwall game in and that's 3 conceded in 8 of their last 10 matches in all competitions.

In terms of the relegation odds I'm surprised we are 5/1 (up til recently we were evens) and Bournmouth are 40/1.
They are good value at that price.

Sorry, hadn't made it that clear but Cheshireclaret has explained it - including the cup tie they've conceded 24 goals conceded in last 10 games. That's similar to the position we were in when he left.

Ake only started 8 league games for Bournemouth in his time there, 3 of which were clean sheets

You can say what you like Saxo but I think Howe has already achieved long-term success at Bournemouth

For a team he took from 92nd place, yes.

Eddie Howe took over Bournemouth when they were bottom of League 2. Currently they are 11th in the Premier League. He's been in charge for 6.5 of the 8 years since first taking over, and has been manager for each of their promotions. To put it politely, Saxo, you're talking out of your posterior.

He is right though, but Rovers also prove the point to a degree.
Howe wouldn't be in the PL with Bournemouth without the money they got from their owner.
Rovers went up achieved some success and are now dropping back down the pyramid due to the owners not splurging on players.
Bournemouth would probably do the same if their owner suddenly lost interest or sold to the wrong person.

Bournemouth might not exist without Howe...
Ake was a good player for them but their defensive issues are likely more deep-seated than that. For all the investment in the playing squad, not a lot of it has gone on defenders and goalkeepers, Mings being the obvious exception, but he's been injured for a long time.
Even at 40/1 I don't think they're tempting to go down though, especially with a couple of the spots looking locked up by Swansea and Sunderland.

I think he's identified one of the problems, which is why they have a bid in for Begovic.

A good manager is Howe, but I suspect it would have taken him at least another two or three seasons to have got us promoted if at all. Dyche did it in one, by far a much better manager.
I thought we were losing a great young English manager who was steadily building a good team when he returned to Bournemouth, turned out a blessing in disguise.

I loved watching Howe's team play but my god it was frustrating. We could be 3-0 up and you wouldn't be completely convinced that we would get the win.
