Hourihane

Looks like Aston Villa are signing him for around £3mil.

Isn't this the sort of player we should be looking at?

We probably have but Nixon reckons Villa were paying him 30k a week so they get him.

£30k a week contract offered by Villa apparently.

Within our salary wage / structure so we can afford him.

But not sure anybody on this Board has seen enough of him to say he is worth this.

If Dyche thought he was good enough and worth this amount of money I`m sure he would be in for him.

I'm almost certain that a player of his Ilk would prefer a move to a premier league team (with a very good chance of staying up) over perhaps a couple extra thousand.

£3m for a CM of his Calibre is nothing nowadays.

Would have liked him here but it doesn't look like we wanted a central midfielder after getting Barton, we may now be forced to look for one after Marney's injury and we'll have missed players like Lansbury/Hourihane maybe we'd have got one of them had Marney's injury not happened 2 days ago. Unfortunate timing maybe

They've signed him and Lansbury this week for about £3 million each, but paying a rumoured £30k and £40k a week each respectively.

Not bad business really by Bruce, but I wonder who's going to make way for them?

Grealish? Waste of space from what I've seen of him! Looks like the sort of lad who has let too much too soon go to his head and will end up scratching around for a club in four or five years, unless he pulls his finger out.

We could have had him last year (as I, er, suggested). Pause here while I pat myself on the back.

My Barnsley supporting mate reckons he's a good top half Championship player so nowhere near a £30k a week player.

Okay for Villa maybe, but not us.

Bruce is doing his usual spend with other people's money buying players of dubious talent. The last two are Championship players at best looking for top money from a team going nowhere

Thing is how many players would the Burnley board be prepared to pay 30k per week ?
3,4 maybe 5 ? Maybe 15 ?

Get a back scratched, Ontario.
Much more satisfying. :D

either way we need to get a few in, Hull are proving that the window is not difficult at all and I'd be surprised if there wage cap is much higher than ours,

You'll probably find that's the going rate now, or will be soon with all the money swilling around in the championship.

We just got lucky getting promoted first time with Dyche despite paying less then the going rate.
There are plenty of players in the championship earning more then our lads.

Perhaps five..........for the moment.

As regards Aston Villa, they are a disaster waiting to happen. Bruce better make all his signings in the next week because if any club are heading for a transfer embargo this year it's Villa. Seriously, they make Blackburn look almost prudent.

A quick glance at their last accounts to Jun'15 reveals a wage bill of £83.7million (compared to our £29.4million) and now a Championship income to look forward to. They are the basket case to end all basket cases right now and are pinning all their hopes on promotion via the play-offs. A forlorn hope looking at the league table.

I thought relegated clubs got a years grace to sort themselves out?

"I thought relegated clubs got a years grace to sort themselves out?"

Championship clubs are assessed now over a three year period during which they can lose up to £39million. In the year to Jun'15 they lost over £27million and this year are looking at a much higher loss than that. Scary times for Villa fans.

So the first season they drop is when they're monitored from?

They're buggered then

You're right Sidney, clubs relegated from the PL are allowed to make losses up to £35million in respect of any season spent in the PL. So effectively Villa have one season at £35m plus two seasons at £13m, thus £61m being their measurement figure.

Their assessment in March this year will be the loss to Jun'15 (£27.3m) + the loss to Jun'16 estimated at £35m + plus a projected figure to Jun'17 (say £45m). Total £107.3m, FFP failure and transfer embargo.

I suspect there will be an overhaul of the squad in the summer, Bruce will put together a team to get them promoted.

Bruce will have to play them and mess up his team. We have tyhe luxury of just adding them to our squad.

Seems to be a lot of people who watch Barnsley week in week out and know all about his game, I can't remember the last Barnsley game I watched apart from against us. Is there a reason why nobody in the championship apart from Villa are in for him or any of the 7 teams below us ?
