Without a railcard you are looking at around £130 for an off peak return journey.

We should hire a train!

We are splitting tickets :-

Waterloo to Bournemouth return is about £12 each way just have to wait for cheap tickets from Manc to London

Next season it's going to cost me between £70 & £90 for return train tickets for me and 3 kids when I want to attend home games and thats with a railcard.

One home game a month for us it is then.

Doing the journey from Oxford to Burnley in car would be approx £60-70 in fuel.

Yes, it often pays to split journeys up. I've been looking at trains to Swansea. Over 4 hours from Manchester and £46 each with our railcards. Much dearer than London. Not booking till Sky announce the televised fixtures though.

Claretdom has it right. Cross Country are **** poor on ticket prices and there's not much in it time-wise to go into Euston and out of Waterloo as compared with dribbling through Leamington Spa, Coventry, Banbury etc. etc.

No way, a lot of people came unstuck with the Spurs game and nothing to do with Sky. Don't mind if its Friday night or any time Saturday, but Sunday would require a change of plan. As it's not looking like a relegation battle we will probably be ok but not risking it. Can't see a cheaper routing for this trip.

Swansea turns to a bus at port talbot on 4 March according to my app. Adds an hour to an already tortuous journey

Flights already booked to Southampton for the Weekend of Bournemouth. Only a Monday night switch would bugger us but then again it's 2 days more on the beach

One thing people may not be aware of is a Two Together railcard.

Card costs £30 for the two people (it has photos so has to be the same two) for a year and they have to be travelling together on the same journey. It gets 30% off per ticket though so it can be worth getting for just one expensive journey.

Looking at Bournemouth for two people that would be 2 x £130 = £260 and then £78 discount for a £30 railcard.

That's the one. If you're going on Friday the 3rd you might be ok(although it's a long journey anyhow - seems to stop literally everywhere)but the sat and Poss Sunday back were affected last time I checked

I saw a poster for those a couple of weeks ago seems a good idea. What happens if one of you gets nicked/pulls/od's though

I live in Swansea. Usually impossible to get cheaper tickets between manchester and swansea by splitting. You could try one down to Bristol Parkway and change there. That's a different tramline than the Manchester to Swansea route. Also try splitting at Cheltenham Spa. Note - sometimes Bristol to Swansea is cheaper for a first class ticket than a standard.

One other way of getting cheaper tickets - if you've got any tesco vouchers, they're worth double against the web site / app Redspottedhanky I use this all the time.

Get an open return and both get nicked / pull and a free night away and come home on Sunday.

I actually hadn't thought of that but may run it past the wife tomorrow.

Another of my bug bears this. Trainline advertise cheap tickets but don't split journeys which can often be cheaper. It can be.done as there is a football away supporters website that does it. Stations.are the same they sell you the easiest ticket not the cheapest unless you ask. I was buying 7 tickets once and as they were busy the person selling said wouldn't split and only offered a higher price. I gave in as queue behind me. When my train.was cancelled I went back and demanded he sold.me split tickets telling him I had half an hour if necessary as my train had been.cancelled. I have tried trainline and they just ignore.

Download an app called tickety split or google it. Or use the old guys method look at your calling points on the route taken and then try splitting it that way.

I would have thought people should be more concerned about getting a match ticket before worrying about travel costs/ how to get there! Seeing as the away allocation is only around 1300.

Banbury is always a good station to split tickets. Plus with Crosscountry trains you can now buy advance tickets and make amendments to your journey if the game changes for TV. So I would recommend getting the cheap tickets as soon as possible.
