Burnley players reaction after penalty
Burnley players reaction after penalty
One thing that sprung to my mind on Sunday was our players reactions after our penalty. They all went to celebrate with our fans, this is in contrast to Rooney's reaction after he scored against Stoke at a similar time where he went to retrieve the ball and return it to the centre spot creating the impression that they wanted the win. With our players reaction it seemed to create the impression that it was job done, we got a point. The Arsenal players will have seen that we were happy with a point and would sit back.
Fergie was on Five Live this evening and said he liked Rooney retrieving the ball to look for the win.
As Dyche says it is a learning curve and the next time we are in a similar situation especially against ten men I'd like to see us look like we are trying to quickly get the game restarted

Re: Burnley players reaction after penalty
It's a good point. Really with vs 10 men it was a great chance to get three points. A number of us thought that with Barton in the side it would improve our "game management" patently that didn't happen as we came under immense pressure.
On the other hand a lot of the lads were probably dead on their feet. Lowton appeared to have severe cramp and went down at one point and a couple collapsed on to the turf at the end having given absolutely everything. Unusual in the Sean Dyche era.

Not too quickly. Surely?
Arsenal would have come at us even if they had 9 men.
Mentally we might have thought we'd got a point and that could have affected a few
who didn't concentrate sufficiently and get back or into position.
Most teams and players who equalise with a few mins to go would do the same.
Especially at Arsenal.

Can't believe we are questioning our reaction to scoring a goal at the Emirates in that situation and staggered that we are questioning game management and Barton's role.ClaretLoup wrote:It's a good point. Playing against teams as good as this, and particularly when we are already behind - it's not any easier playing against ten than it is against eleven. Arsenal had dropped back with the way we were playing and trying to counter. They pushed us back once we'd scored.

What's to say if we had picked up the ball quickly and not celebrated that the Arsenal players wouldnt have though "cheeky feckers - they think they can win now".
Of course they should have celebrated! There is a huge difference between us equalising very late on away at Arsenal to Man United doing so in a game at Stoke where they expect three points and nothing less.

Of course it's only natural to celebrate that goal especially at the time it was scored and the place it was scored and the possibility of rescuing a valuable point, but the point I am making is the impression it creates to another team. I am no expert but I would have it as a guess the the energy expanded celebrating like our players is more than if Andre had have just run into the net and collected the ball plus they would be more focused when the game restarts. All I was saying is the big teams wouldn't do it at that stage of the game in a situation to ours and couldn't we learn from it.

Re: Burnley players reaction after penalty
Spur of the moment natural reaction to a well deserved last minute equaliser at one of the worlds biggest clubs. 10 men or not we have only one point away all season. A point would be a cracking result and if anything were probably seeing out as much time as we could. No teams swansea aside had really gained on us all weekend.
Theres a big difference with Burnley and Man urd ffs

That's right. A player like Sanchez is capable of scoring at any moment and if we'd have pushed for a win it might have made it easier for them to score.
Imagine the reaction if we'd have gone for the winner, left ourselves exposed at the back (like we did when looking for a 5th against Sunderland) and conceded in that manner!

I know I wasn't shouting at the screen "hurry up and get the ball back to the half way line so Arsenal can throw the kitchen sink at us!!!!"
I couldn't breath for about 20 seconds after I stopped celebrating, in fact, it was about the time their none pen was awarded when I'd calmed down!

I hope their reaction following this will be to go all out to show how good we are and slap the 14 points needed to reach 40 on the board with a few games to spare. Get into 'em.

Hindsight is 20/20.
Had their penalty not been falsely given we could have a thread now saying how good it was that the players chose to celebrate with the fans and the "togetherness" we have between those on the pitch and those in the stands.

Re: Burnley players reaction after penalty
Even though we lost I would say it was lessons learned from the Man Utd game. When Hererra got sent off we made no attempt whatsoever to go for a winner, at least this time Dyche threw caution to the wind and we had a go. Barring a shoddy linesman we would have been rewarded for it.

When ManU score against Stoke it's much less of a thing than when we score against Arsenal at The Emirates
I'd be disappointed if it didn't mean so much to the players

Re: Burnley players reaction after penalty
A good result for use would have been a point. A good result for ManYoo would have been a win. If Rooney's goal had put ManYoo 2-1 up instead of juest equalising does anyone think he'd be rushing to get the ball back on the centre spot? Of course he wouldn't, yet no one would be suggesting that such a celebration would mean the figured it was 'job done'.
Re: Burnley players reaction after penalty
Based on the thread title I thought this was going to be about Ashley Barnes twice almost headbutting the referee. Lad's a liability. Wenger's facing a long ban for much less.

Re: Burnley players reaction after penalty
I think the OP makes a valid and constructive point. Mentally, i thought we relaxed a little bit after the equaliser and perhaps the celebrations and belief the job was done contributed to that. This is a minor point but you have to take all the learning points you can.

Re: Burnley players reaction after penalty
So Ashley Barnes telling the referee that Koscielny put his head down in the penalty incident is seen as an attempt to headbutt the referee. Unbelievable.Walton wrote:Based on the thread title I thought this was going to be about Ashley Barnes twice almost headbutting the referee. Lad's a liability. I am fairly sure that, if the referee had thought that that was the case, Ashley Barnes would have been dismissed instead of being cautioned for dissent.

In fairness if I was Barnes I would've been tempted to whack him or the linesman. Or bothWalton wrote:Based on the thread title I thought this was going to be about Ashley Barnes twice almost headbutting the referee. Lad's a liability. Wenger's facing a long ban for much less.

Re: Burnley players reaction after penalty
I just wish the players had started a 5 minute Um ba ba and wasted all the remaining time left. That would be game management.
Re: Burnley players reaction after penalty
Not sure you can look into it like that, we failed to clear the ball after the throwing...Tom let it go for a corner. ..we didn't stop Sanchez crossing. The Lino didn't flag and the ref didn't see it or blow up for 3 seconds. Our time will come...Swings and all that
