Trumps Wall

'' A big day for national security..... among other things we will build the wall'' - surely it'll take longer than a day..

In fact it will probably take longer than 4 years to build a 2000 mile wall in hostile areas - so what happens in 4 years time when they get a new president (assuming he doesn't get assassinated before then). Will the new president have to continue with the wall ?

Just to give you a comparison, it took 2000 years to build the Great Wall of China - however this is 3700 miles long.

I'm not worrying, just having a long hard think about it on my way to work this morning.

Sorry if I am being a bit pedantic but isn't it more likely to be a fence.

No, no. He promised a wall and he wouldn't lie.

On a technical point, is it possible to build a wall out of wood or a fence out of bricks?

I suppose in the olden days when they built the first forts/castles out of wood they called them walls and not fences.

I suppose given that it is a vanity project by the Donald it is more likely to be a golden wall (gold leaf) with flashing adverts for Trump Towers etc.

I don't really understand what the problem is with this. Like someone said, there's already a fence there. So he's promising to upgrade that to a wall? Big deal!

Trump walks the walk unlike most politicians who in general don't fulfil their election manifesto.

Why would anybody want to live in a country ruled by Donald Trump?

The wall is probably being built to stop those currently there from leaving. 8-)

Think there is method in his madness. He promised to put America back to work, building the wall will employ a LOT of construction workers and labourers. It also tied in to a very real problem of gang culture and drug traffic jumping over the border from South and Central America, which there is little doubt they do. So kills two birds with one stone and delivers an election promise.

One thing he does need to be aware of though is that internal investment in the economy only last as long as it can be financed. In reality it is not going to generate any income only redistribute what they already have.

Interesting, like a New Deal for the 2010s?

Thing is, the Hoover Dam and the TWA would have (and continue to have) massive economic benefits for the US.

Building a wall is just a wall. And even a bit of history reading about both the Great Wall and Hadrians Wall tells you that they don't stop incursions of the size that he's aiming at.

Now if the Mexicans decide to invade (and drop about three thousand years of technology), then its a winner!

I found this brilliant insight on Reddit this morning after Trump threatened Chicago with martial law:

"The irony is bittersweet. For the past eight years, the wingnuts which include Glen Beck, Sean Hanity and Alex Jones propelled the idea that Obama would unleash heavy-handed Federal agents against citizens, they said the President was an anti-capitalist, even Marxists and said that they feared the President would pick economic winners and losers and his policies would grind the economy into the ground. A Congressman even had audacity of calling Obama a liar during his first State of the Union speech. They said he was not a true Christian and was faking his faith. They said he'd sully the good name of the United States and do irreparable damage to our image abroad. Obama did none of these things. All the signs point to this President doing/being all of these and now they are in compete denial."

The problem is not securing the physical boundary - its preventing people getting through official border posts.

About 16 years ago we travelled into the USA from Canada overland via Rooseville Montana. My 8 year old daughter had to stand in front of the border agent while she was compared with a picture of Osama Bin Laden, to ensure he was not trying to enter though the largest unguarded border in the world disguised as a small white girl. It didn't leave me with much confidence in the intellectual capabilities of the border service.

It will become a tourist attraction when he starts building it and could bring massive amounts of money into the towns where it is.

I presume it would be a packed up stone retaining wall so should be pretty quick getting built with stacker trucks and cranes rather than trowels.

Serious question here for IT.

You seem to post quite a lot on here using links from various other websites, forums, chat rooms etc so you must spend a lot of time on the internet. So my question is - Do you consider posting on a football forum as some sort of exercise? Is it your way of working out?

Just asking.

You omitted to refer to the $221,000,000 which Obama secretly transferred to Palestine minutes before his presidency expired. That should kick things off nicely in the middle east but hey Barack Hussein Obama is on Necker Island so no problem for him I guess.

Military doctrine is that obsatcles must be covered by defensive fire.
A wall or a fence is no good if most of the incursions are underneath or miles from civilisation.

It's a proper Red Herring.

No wonder USA is so much in debt ! The Palestine payment had been blocked by the house. Still if it makes Hussein feel better then thats ok.

It wasn't blocked by the house. Obama was under no obligation to abide by the "block" that anyone in congress placed on it. He did so only as courtesy, as is typical for such holds.

"At least two GOP lawmakers had placed holds on the Palestinian funds. Congressional holds are generally respected by the executive branch but are not legally binding."

Maybe if you stopped getting your news from the liked of breitbart then you wouldn't keep embarrassing yourself so much. But then again, it is the news source of choice for racists.

And when are you going to answer my question with regards to how you feel Trump's draining of the swamp is going? What is it now, 6 goldman sachs appointees to his administration? Or has he added a few more in the last week?

In fairness to the Donald who wouldn't build a big fence if Mexico were your closest neighbour ?

Anyone with any experience of work or business in Mexico

Don't think it will be bluster at all Lakes. I think I'd be more surprised to find that Mexico wasn't propped up by the US and didn't at the end of the day have to do as they are told.
