How long until the Soaps are finished

I dont know anyone under the age of 30 that watch any of the soaps.
People around my age (29)and younger tend to watch tv different to the older generation. Products like Netflix, YouTube, Amazon prime, HBOgo, etc have totally changed how people watch tv.
With this change in viewing habits I reckon the soaps will be off the air in 10 years, or will be seriously low budget.

Install Kodi and then the add-on, Sportsmania, and you can watch it on your laptop/computer/tablet.

As long as there are women there will be soaps. And soap.

They won't be finished, because they're appealing to a large portion of society, both men and women.

Eastenders for me!! (Now I'm really dating myself.) And they had a really catchy jingle to start the show.

And why is it on all of these shows that the "good girl" always gets pregnant?

Walking through burnley I thought some people had finished with soap already.

Oh. That's nasty, Deeper. I watched a bum being tossed out of a shopping mall today. That kind of stuff happens everywhere.

"Soap" was an excellent American TV series back in the late '70s, early '80s.

7.00 Emmerdale
7.30 Coronation Street
8.00 Eastenders
8.30 Coronation Street
So in our house the soaps are normally finished about nine. This is when the wife seems to come out of the trance she has been in for the last two hours and we may have anything resembling a decent conversation. Not that I'm complaining, allows me to spend time on here without interruption.

Dating yourself? Imploding Turtle does that. Scored on the first night as well.

Can't let that one go without answer.
Like them or not you cannot say they are not extremely good at their job and have been for many years.
It would be interesting to see you and them put your respective achievements on the table for comparison.

Soaps have their uses that's for sure, in fact anything which induces a trance on the misses to keep her quiet is a bonus. I'd hate for there to be more reality nonsense or these decorating shows giving her more ideas and me more work.

I find a box of Maltesers keeps my missus quiet. For 5 minutes at least.

I do record Corrie and Enders, however I also fast forward through 2 episodes of Corry in under 20 minutes, with ease. You can still tell what's going on even by watching it x12.

I've only ever watched them at Christmas with the extended family or at someone elses gaff when they've insisted that they watch it. I 've always been completely miffed at what the appeal is.
In 7 years of being an exile I haven't seen a soup, an advert or any of those quirky annoying cartoons that clutter up Sky TV and in 4 yrs of that time I've been a teetotaler who avoids junk food.
Its probably a coincidence, I wanted to become healthier anyway, although sitting in front of a screen watching people endlessly drink and have domestics might not be all that beneficial.

The "skill" in Soaps is that they are "Dip in" i.e nothing much changes really. People switch off for years but then catch a storyline that peaks their interest and are hooked back in for a period, and its instantly familiar often these same people lose interest again only to fall into the trap again further down the line.
Its no co-incidence that the advertising fees are highest around the soaps or that they are given the prime time slots in early evening.

You don't know what you're missing. Heinz Chicken soup is very nice with a bit of wholemeal bread.

Out of interest, how many blokes on here under the age of 35 watch one of the soaps?
Less than a handful I reckon

Good point Inchy, If they do watch them it'll probably be to compromise for some lass.

Given that I personally know more than a handful under 35 who post on here I'd suggest your theory is some way from being accurate.

Anyone who watches them needs their head examining.
How can anyone be entertained by such nonsense? Its whats wrong with modern society! Being brainwashed by crap like coronation street. At least in years gone by there was some humour in Corry. But theyre way past their sell by date. Has anyone ever smiled in Eastenders?

I think a lot of young blokes watch but then deny it to almost biblical levels. I remember JD Robbo (as a young man) used to get a lot of stick over soaps, but the same people taking the mick out of him always knew the plot lines / Characters he was taking about.

I think less people must be watching because there are less soaps now than there was 10-20 years ago.
I used to watch the soaps when I was a teenager mainly because I lived at home and my Dad watched them. I reckon teenagers these days spend more time watching youtube than they do watching TV

Frank, in todays modern society that's nowhere near junk food.

I watched Coronation Street, and to a lesser extent Eastenders regularly as a kid/teenager, mainly due to my grandparents and mum being fans but since then I haven't bothered. I have to admit if I ever turn the TV on and see Eastenders it usually makes me laugh, somebody is either in tears or offering somebody out .. 'You want some do ya?'.

The only good storyline in Corrie is with Pat Phelan.
