Do Burnley have the fastest singers in the league?

I've given this a bit of thought, fleetingly, over a number of years now, and through the frustrations of youth, to a more nonchalant state as I get older I think we must have the fastest singers ("Speed Singers" as some of our fans call them) in the entire Premier League and Football League. Perhaps even the world? :o :D

Every song we have has to be clapped to....FAST! The faster the better apparently. And if you can't sing at the 100mph then you're doing it wrong, and get stares for not joining in.

I listen to the songs of other clubs, some good, some bad, but their fans, in the main, don't seem to have this problem with a lot of their songs. Take Spurs, Stoke, Southampton etc as a random a random example; They sing "Oh when the Saints/Spurs/Reds, go marching in" and start of real slow (no clapping). They continue and then build over a couple of minutes where it seems the entire ground joins in. We have changed our words down the years to "t*ts, fa**y and Clarets", so a lot won't join in anyway, but sung at breakneck speed you don't get a chance. Man United with their song that went on forever last night...nice rhythm despite it being annoying for neutrals. :?

I'm pretty sure if our fans slowed down just a tad then more and let the songs build then more would join in?

Okay, I get it that some fans who are part of the singing section will suggest it's moaning (it's not, it's constructive as I want the entire ground to get involved) and to just be glad someone is making a noise, but I used to be in there and starting it too. I'm just a bit older now and observe a lot more. I've seen many people on here mention it, so it's not just me.

Were we always like that in the 60's, 70's and 80's, because I don't remember us being like that?

Yes. And some try to sign two songs at once. Its a fair talent but bloody annoying.

Spurs' slow 'When the Spurs go marching in' is one of the worst sounds ever.

Just go at your own pace. If you finish after everyone else then so be it!

I've always wondered how many claps to do after the first no, nay, never, is it 18 or 19 before the next no, nay, never?

3 seasons in the PL brings fans out from allover the place, glory seekers. They turn up to watch the opposition.

''Where were you when we were sh*t?''

Agree with most of the OP.

It's rather sad when it would appear that some of our fans need educating on how to sing a song. They also need to be told when and when not to clap.

Weird.

I sit in a "singing section" and give up on a few songs that I/We start up as soon as others join in because of the speeds they get belted out at

Perhaps watching the old 4th Div Championship video would help. I'm sure there's a bit near the end with the Longside singing 'Jimmy Mullens Claret and Blue Army' (followed by 4 steady claps). All in unison, sounding great!

It does sound great - tried singing "Sean Dyche' claret and blue army" again instead of the clapping to maybe slow it down again but to nk avail.

Hopefully the Barton Glad All Over tune can pick up some pace tomorrow/Tuesday.

We were definitely more deliberate in our singing/chanting in the 70's and 80's.

That's how I remember it. Not every song had to be clapped to. The 'Burnley, Burnley, BURNLEY' chant was slow and meaningful, rather than the rushing through it. 'Jimmy Mullen's Claret & Blue Army' could be sung for 45 minutes in a trance like fashion, and we even got imaginative with that from the Cricket Field 'Stand Boys' (ex-Longsiders): They'd take turns standing up and singing 'JIMMY', then others stood and sang 'MULLEN's', then together singing 'Clarets and Blue Army'. Blackpool away it worked right down the undercover terrace, some singing either bit. We were inventive. We seemed to have hit a void at some point and lost our way a bit, now just copying other club's songs. :(

Oh, and when the chant and 'bouncy' used to be the manly sounding UM BAH BAH, instead of this Oom Pah Pah (Music Man??) thing the youngsters have started with....

The very very slow Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurnley
at corners in the seventies was fantastic. IMO
The B started as soon as a corner was awarded and the U continued
until the ball hit Fletcher's head.
One gulp of breath and you held the note until you couldn't hold it any longer.
No clapping. A guy in the CFS did it a couple of matches ago, but it didn't catch on.

:(

Best sound ever was hearing JMC&BA as an echo when one section sang the line then a second section sang the line then back to the first section.
It meant that it could go on for ever

I witnessed one lad at Barnsley when we filled the away end reciting words in spoken fashion at breakneck speed.

It was almost like there was a prize for finishing first.

Watch some of Vizeh on youtube and listen to the speed he talks at and the songs he and other prominent singers race through ( yes, I know it's edited) and I think we win hands down.

Never wishing to curb the enthusiasm of the younger fans but some of the modern generation struggle to concentrate on the same thing for more than 20 seconds.

I blame Techno, e numbers and McDonalds
