Just supposing......

.......we don't sign anybody and no one leaves in this flipping energy draining transfer window, we close ranks, retain the team spirit and just get on with it. We are in a better league position than expected, we have Scotty and JBG returning from injury, some pretty good youngsters ( and Joey, impending ban permitting) providing a bit of depth as cover, accepting we need a bit more in view of Deans injury. I just think to jump on this gazumping transfer window bandwagon nonsense is just not how Burnley can or want to do business. I am just thankful we are not owned by some overseas, uncaring consortium that leads us into bankruptcy, from a financial perspective, we have never been in a better position. How things have changed since the Orient match....think on !

Props for the mention of the Orient game in the last sentence, but you've missed out on a full house by failing to mention Portsmouth.
Better luck next time.

I will be disappointed but will get over it especially if we stay up. More important things in life to get worked up about.

Deadline day would be boring if we have done all our signings before anyway at least this way there is potential incomings. Whether they come or not is another matter and to be honest isn't really my concern I can't control it we can only pay what we can pay for people if it isn't enough I prefer us to say no rather than spend too much. Remember Portsmouth and the Orient game blah blah blah, is that worth a full house

I have said all along that 1 signing that improves our first 11 is all we need as well as having Joey.
Hope he does not get a long ban

Claretforshaw, you mentioned we've got some pretty good youngsters in your post.
Who are they? Can't think of anyone who is remotely close to challenging for a start.

I believe we will stay up if we don't sign anyone but it's still bloody risky, this is our best chance yet and we should take it.

jurek I suppose I was thinking of O'Neill, Anderson,Agyei, maybe Jackson and Ginelly, admittedly more for the future than the present. I am not saying I wouldn't like some incoming transfers but not at any price just because the perception from selling clubs is that unusually we now have some money to spend, but hopefully not to waste.

Although I very much agree with the sentiment of the OP, I can't help feeling things changed somewhat with Marney's long term injury as it reduces our options rather and means no further signings becomes more of a risk. Having said that I have no problem with us refusing to be held to ransom, refusing to be jerked around and pulling out of deals such as the Brady one which just seem to become protracted and very public and involve a bidding war spiraling out of control. We've done brilliantly for a number of years now picking up diamonds who need a bit of polishing for reasonable prices (Ings, Vokes, Mee, Keane and more recently JBG etc) Are we going to get something hugely more impressive than JBG for out £13 million? I'm not so sure. We need to be careful we don't bet the ranch and continue to spend wisely or the 10th most profitable club in Europe (allegedly) COULD be the new Bolton. We HAVE to get value for money and improve on what we have, or we'll make do with what we have already.

The OP refers to "this gazumping transfer window bandwagon nonsense" and suggests that Burnley jump off as that is not how the club does business. I presume that he means quits the Premier League or do not engage in any further transfer business where a player is asking for big wages and the selling club is demanding an astronomical fee. That is, of course until we decide to sell some of our star names when we will be asking for top dollar. The Premier League is all about TV money and big business and the window in the summer will be the same as it is now just a little bit longer. If we stay up for a second season the expectation will be that we can pay higher wages still and be prepared to sign more players with star quality. Now that we are in a stronger financial position and better placed in the PL table we need to sign 1 or 2 players especially given the long term injury suffered by Marney to give us a better chance of staying up. If Sean Dyche has identified several players does the club not owe it to him to try and bring them to the club to give him, and us, a better chance of being in the PL next season. Whilst we remain in the PL there will always be huge expectations of big money transfers and player wages to match, otherwise we risk not being able to compete at the highest level, and receiving £100m plus each season we survive is to give us a shot at that.

100 plus million of we stay up. We are 4 wins from that with all of the 7 teams below us yet to play
we can do it.
we should do it.
but we can also make it bloody hard for ourselves. we have three midfielders. ones facing a ban. ones not played 90 minutes and ones in his first year at this level. Furthermore none have marneys box to box energy.
interesting times.

we have entered a scummy world of financial trickery, slagging off those who are better at it than us, is no way to go.
we are just looking like saps. We pay certain players ludicrous wages already, Burnley are not the benchmark for integrity.
