Defour and Hendrick weren't in their cars crying after signing? Total rubbish - not good enough player and not right attitude, hence not breaking into the side.

I didn't have anything against Bamford but he comes across as feeling sorry for himself whenever I hear him. Had he applied himself and proven himself a valuable member of our squad I'm sure he'd have got a chance. He obviously didn't do that. Time will tell whether he proves himself at this level but I doubt he will.

Nice to see he's got ambition etc, but can anyone really see him playing up front for Boro regularly this season?

Boro fans reckon he will play on the flank more then anywhere else.

if SD didn't want to keep him, that's reason enough for me.

Did he cry when he was at Norwich and Palace aswell and couldn't get a game ?

Didn't get much of a chance but didn't look like a grafter to me when he did come on. Won't get into a Dyche team without the hard work. Probably been spoon fed too early and set expectations too high.

There was someone being interviewed on the telly about him a couple of weeks ago. They said they had watched him train, not with the Clarets, and he was bone idle. They said they wanted to go and have a chat with him, and explain that he was wasting his career with his attitude.
I have no axe to grind, I hope he finds his feet. I was chuffed when we signed him, but it wasn't to be. Despite that one great year he had at Boro, I'd be surprised if going back was his best move, then again it might well have been his only option.

Sounds like a bit of fault on both sides, but the impression i get of Bamford - both from that and previous reports and comments of previous loan managers - is he's a bit high maintainence and a bit prone to sulking if things arent going his way.

The comment about Dyche's reputation, although to be treated with caution coming as it does from someone rather jilted - is a bit of a concern. Its not a reputation which is good news and it does ring a bit true from the way he's used - or not used - loans in particular.

It's not the crying in the car that I felt sorry for (he needs to man up with being in strange places if he wants to be a successful footballer) it's the circumstances of him being here.

I'm not saying he is good enough. For me he's one of those "in-between" players that are better than the Championship but not good enough for the Prem.

I get the impression he wasn't a Dyche type signing, but more of a "panic loan" to cover the potential of Gray ban being longer in order to appease some people.

As it was, we changed formation, didn't miss Gray and didn't really need Bamford.

We were close to getting him on loan in January 2014 but with the signing almost done he opted to go to Derby where he had a better goalscoring record than Middlesbrough.

I believe that he would have played had he been up to it. That's three managers now who have failed to give him game time in the Premier League, let's see what the fourth one does.

I don't really know much about Bamford, and I hope he has a fulfilling life, but that piece, to me, is full of self pity and no self responsibility. I realise it is meant to endear him to the fans, but if that was a Burnley player, it would raise concerns over his mental strength. I read a book, many years ago, about emotional intelligence, very interesting and an insight into a weak mind.
As for not getting game time, if he was head and shoulders above our other strikers, I'm sure Dyche would have played him, as it was, something was obviously lacking, and not only when he was at Burnley. Karanka looking in the past, me thinks.

Bamford signed at the start of the 16/17 EPL season.

He has had a lot of loans, like many young players at Chelsea. It appears that feeling at home is very important to him. The permanent transfer will do him good. Our strikers were quicker off the blocks than expected. He was last in line. We'll have to see if he plays for Boro. Better score quick.

Very few of our loan signings come off, for whatever reason.
The only reason to take a player on loan is
a with a view to buy
b to improve the starting XI

We seem to have had so many over the last few years that are only bench warmers, what's the point. I exclude Flannigan as he was on his way back from injury and we couldn't have been 100% sure of what we were getting. The rest of them might as well have been gathering dust at their parent clubs.

Sounds like Boro have signed him now because they felt sorry for him.

I know Dyche likes to stick with players but Bamford probably just wasn't doing enough to impress Dyche in training. I get the impression that he felt he deserved to play before he'd arrived when in reality, he had to earn that chance with us.

Strange one as he comes from Grantham. Signed for Chelsea from Forest and has been on loan to the NE, NW, and Norfolk. So he's actually spent more time away from "Home" than he has there.

If he'd have wanted to return to Middlesbrough so much, he'd have re-signed for them instead of going to Crystal Palace.

I wouldn't have used such harsh language but basically I agree. Definitely gives the impression of a player who needs cuddles and constant re-assurance to keep him happy. While I'm fairly sure SD can motivate and encourage I don't really see the gaffer as a hearts, flowers and the occasional cuddly toy gift type boss. I think he would have done well under Coyle; his constant streams of bullshit would have been just what Bamford would have reacted positively to.

He barely had a chance? He has spent the last 6 months training every day with the first team, if he had really been busting a gut on the training ground and proving to the management team they were missing a trick not playing him do you really think he wouldn't have got a game? Maybe not, but I personally think its far more likely he came with the big I am attitude and just went through the motions and did not go all out to impress.

Just because he did not get in the team does not mean he did not get a chance. He got a chance every day to show what he could do in training and in development games and he was not up to it.

No inverted snobbery at all - he was on a reported £30k a week and this is third team in a row where he has not performed on loan. Sounds like he's begged Boro to sign him and Karanka has fallen for it.

I hope he does as well at Boro as he has done at Burnley, Norwich and Palace.

purely on a footballing point, he missed an absolute sitter yesterday, based on that alone, glad we got shot of him.

As a player don't you agree to any given loan? In which case he makes the point himself regarding SD, so why agree in the first place?
