Any dune fans on here, just read that a new film is being planned and maybe a series.
One of my favourite books, I also quite like the film.

I've never watched the film, but I've tried reading the book and I've struggled with it if I'm honest.

Classic Sci-Fi, I'm looking foprward to them murdering it again.
The David Lynch film was ok until they ran out of money about twenty minutes in, the series was mainly poor.
The best "film" so far was Jodorowsky's Dune about the film that never got made.

Read the Dune books years ago.
Not seen any of the film's though.
Always found film's of books I've liked never really fit well.

Love the books.

I've never read the book & I'm far from a keen cinema-goer or dvd watcher but I love that film. I have it on dvd and watch it every couple of years. We had it originally on videotape when my kids were little and we used to watch as a family and were all well entertained. Retrospectively its more than a bit corny (and Sting is a bit off-putting) but there's something very enthralling about it.

Liked the film, not such a fan of the books though to be perfectly honest.

Played the old computer game many years ago. Now available for free.

I read an article on movieweb.com, it was a link through something I was reading.
I watched the film first then read the book, after finishing the book I thought how the hell do you put that book into a film.
Really looking forward to a new film with some proper money thrown at it, fingers crossed.

I have the Laserdisc of the film, complete with tee-shirt (still wrapped). Quite valuable thesedays. Might be time to sell?

The classic sci-fi books were full of interesting characters, themes and concepts (see Arival). The danger is they are taken at complete face value and turned into bland CGI fests (See Enders Game).

This is why I hope they never make the Foundation Series seeing how smart diplomacy is more often key to narrowly avoiding catastrophe and very few writers can pull that off when studios want blockbuster fodder.
The Forever War; which Ridley Scott purchased rights to and sat on for a decade in favour of rehashing his old stuff to minimal effect, has been sold again. Possibly starring Channing Tatum but more worryingly written by Jon Spaihts of Promethues and Passengers to his name...
A modern classic I hope Ready Player One is a good film.

'Dune' is a fantastic novel. As is 'Dune Messiah'. Not read any of the other ones.

Got to admit I love the David Lynch film (even if he doesn't) and I'll be damned surprised if any new 'Dune' film doesn't take at least some visual cues from it.

Thing is though, I can't help thinking that any new 'Dune' film is going to hit the same buffers the David Lynch one did; even with taking some fairly hefty liberties with the original text, there's just too much going on to fit into a coherent 2-hour narrative.

Looking forward to it though, if it comes off. Even if it doesn't completely work, there'd be something laudable about a Lynchian noble failure.

Is this the one to do with huge worms and lots of sand?

Read all the books years ago and have seen the film several times. There was a 3 part mini series years ago but I haven't seen that.
I enjoyed the film but agree that it's overdue for a remake. It's a classic tale of good v bad with a lot of interwoven sub-plots.... and big worms.

I liked the original book but I thought the sequels gradually tailed off. The prequels, written by his son and another author, were actually pretty good though.

The film was entertaining in a David Lynch kind of way but I think there's too much there to make a film that's representative of the book. Would probably require a big budget HBO series to do it justice.

Based on what they have achieved with lord of the rings. A 3 part film could do it justice. Impossible to condense into one two and a half hour film.

Never saw the Lynch film as a kid but I've had a go at watching it a few times in the last couple of years and just can't get through it, how long is it? Feels long, no idea what's going on by the end.

I liked the prequel books, answered a few questions.
Not as deep as the original book book a nice easy read.
I think the trilogy idea is good but would enough people watch it to justify a big budget.

The film wasn't for me.
Sting was in it. Great musician never thought much of him as a actor.

The novels are terrific and the film captures the feel superbly. The problem with the "ending" is that it takes most of the film doing about half the book then rattles through the last half really quickly. Its a huge epic full of lots of characters and complex politics. hard to get the whole of that in a film and Lynch does a good job getting close.

I really enjoyed the mini-series - had the time to do some credit to the story.
My favourite Sci-Fi story by a long way.
