Remainig Fixtures

Post by Moggybfc » Wed Feb 01, 2017 9:49 pm

Just had a look at the remaining fixtures and we have :-

6 Home - Chelsea, Spurs, Stoke, Man Utd, WBA and WHU
9 Away - Watford, Hull, Swansea, Liverpool, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Everton, Palace and Bournemouth

Looking at the next 4 home fixtures and who we have to play

Do we need to get 5 - 7 points from the next 6 away games, as we don't want to be looking over our shoulders come the WBA game

We need results at at least two of the first homes games and three away.

If we can get three or four points from those five games then we'll be up to 32/33 points
and still looking reasonably good. Any more then it'll be more than fine. In fact close to odds on
as another 5 or 6 points from the remaining 4 at home and 5 away games then I think we'll stay up.

However, a win at Watford and a draw at Hull, or better still, a draw at Watford and win at Hull
would makes us odds on to stay up.
Would be great if the fans and the players could all relax by the end of March.
knowing we're just about there and good enough to get points from our remaining 8/9 games.

I do not fear anybody at home, bring them on.

We will win at least two away games, and I fancy a couple of draws as well.

Looking at the away games in particular, it's in our own hands. Only two of those teams are in the top half of the table and we've beatem them both at home already so we have nothing to fear.

With the Brady and Westwood signings and our current form I'm confident we'll stay up.

Looking at the BBC predictor I have us down for 17 more points, and that was being conservative

31 more points to give us a nice round total of 60 points

The teams we have away are more than beatable. In fact in the 27 points available against them at home we have won 22. Only losing against one of them. You would like to think that we could get at least one win from those 9.

The home games do look tough. All of them. But worse case we should be able to get a couple of wins.

Psychologically though we could have the upper hand. Most teams wont want to come to Burnley. We should get enough points from those 6 home games alone.

Then away look at the teams we have to play. I know its history but of those teams to play we have won more league titles than Watford, Palace, Bournemouth, Palace, Hull, Boro combined who between them have won ZERO. I know that doesnt mean much today. But they are nothing clubs. We are bigger and more illustrious than them even if they do have rich owners and new stadiums. We don't need to fear these clubs - they are as much punching above themselves as we are!

Another factor is that all the bottom six have to play each other once more. Except Palace & Swansea.

I think (conservatively) 7 or 8 points at home is doable (if some of those points happened to come against Chelsea and Man Utd, it would be fantastic); away from home ? who knows, again another 7 or 8 points, with the way we have progressed over the last few games, plus Westwood and Brady, should be possible (whilst also taking points off any of Hull, Sunderland, etc). So there it is, another 14 or 16 points = either 43 or 45.

If only we could of picked up a few points on the road, think where we could have been.

3 draws at Hull, Swansea & Sunderland will do it.

You would then be asking teams that have won 4 all season ( 24 games ) to do the same again in 14, and we would need to not collect another point, to even be looking in trouble.

Its not so much the points why I believe we are safe, just the sheer number of teams between us and 17th.

If it was any other team except Burnley, we would be saying they are safe.

If this was Bournemouth, Hull, Boro who were sat 10th 10 points clear of relegation, we would be wishing it was us moaning about not spending as much as them etc etc.
