RISE MILL TOWN - DIRTY OLD TOWN!!

Nobody can argue that Turf Moor in full voice is a sight to behold.... A lot of people also complain about our limited song book.
A new "anthem" would go down a treat and I saw a video of FC United singing their version of "Dirty Old Town - The Pogues" which reminded me of a version I posted on here ages ago.
I met my love - down at Turf Moor
Dreamed a dream - in the old Longside
And still I'm here - after all these years
Rise Mill Town - Rise Mill Town

Here are the FC United fans in full voice singing their version.

Though I agree there is much potential there, Crazy, the words don't quite fit.
Your first line needs one more syllable, and your fourth, two.

It's open to be changed to suit - just think it could fit in very nicely and be a real anthem here.

Again I for one agree.
How about:
'I met my love down at
old Turf Moor
Dreamed a dream in the old Longside
And I'm still here, after all these years
For the mill town;
for the mill town' ?
Though I could do better and make it rhyme, too, if you like.
Btw, I also liked the earlier Pogues.

'I met my love down at old Turf Moor

Think a song with "mill town" included is needed to add to our repetoir *sp* - a proper bit of history in there.

Nothing wrong with the original fourth line - it says it all.

If it doesn't have to rhyme then it's easy - but I'll have another think.

Love this suggestion! Would be a real anthem and similar pace to 'In our Lancashire Homes.'

Except, as I said, that it doesn't fit the tune and needs two more syllables.
Crazy - Maybe 'Forward, mill town; forward mill town' ?

Would stop the 100000 miles an hour singing and could be repeated and repeated.

I understand your passion for this song. It is my favourite ever and has been the backdrop to some emotional moments. The only song I know
all the words to. It will probably feature at my funeral, hopefully not too soon. Although written about Salford it represents our town and club
so well. Passion, history, hard times but always hope and fight.
Easy question. What is the link between this and Roberta Flack?

Great idea and I have been known to belt out the song in a Dublin bar or two but two problems:
1. The original song is about Salford. Will BFC fans sing a song which originates from Man U country?
2. How will you stop the Longside from singing it far too fast a la 'we'ar'a'lonsi'Burnley'

Alternative ending.
'I met my love down at old Turf Moor
Dreamed a dream in the old Longside
And I'm still here, after all these years -
Burnley's my town, Burnley's my town.'

A simple change could be the way to go for the last line ...
I met my love - down at old Turf Moor
Dreamed a dream - In the old Longside
And I'm still here - After all these years
In my mill town - In my mill town.

I dont mind the old 'COME ON BURNLEY' chants....to generate a bit of volume and atmospere,or the chanting of players names....apart from the no nay never rendition why are we striving to have these 'jolly' sing songs?

I know it doesn't rhyme Redbeard, but neither did the OP.
As for Burnley not being everyone's hometown, I didn't suggest it was. Just that in some way it's our tean, our club, our town.
Personally I don't have a Lancashire home or an exceedingly rare accent, I am not "the longside" and I rarely meet people from Blackburn in ale houses.

Regarding the rhyming, DiB; I know, and thus the smiley. Not even the Pogues' original song lyrics rhymed. Yet we could always try to
improve on them.
As for your line 'Burnley's my town', however, I disagree. The words manifestly
do say so, but folk from Clitheroe, Great Harwood, Colne or Skipton, for example, can't really claim that and remain credible.
My
team, yes; my town, no.

Completely different words, same tune:
There was a man, with a ginger beard,
he changed our team, to one that should be feared,
he filled our hearts, with claret pride,
Our Sean Dyche, Our Sean Dyche.

Only the same as the CFS singing "We are the Longside..."
Down here in the sarf...no-one's heard of a little town called Nelson, so I say i'm from Burnley. It's just easier.
But I still consider Burnley as my home town, ancestral family connections etc.
They all know where Burnley is now.

I met my love down in the foggy Valley
Dared to dream on the old Turf Moor
And I'm still here, after all these years
For the mill town; dirty old town.
Or...
I met my love down in the foggy Valley
Dared to dream on the terraces of Turf Moor
And I'm still here, after all these years
For the mill town; dirty old town.

We were playing Rovers, so he was up for fightin',
But those days are over, as we've moved to Brighton

How about this to ensure rhyming of second and fourth lines?
I met my love down at old Turf Moor,
Dreamed a dream of the longside sound
Now I'm still here after all these years,
Cotton mill town, cotton mill town.
I might be being a bit naive here but could we agree to a poster who has contributed to the Burnley cause eg Vizeh to decide on the final version? He has no obvious political views and he seems popular enough - he certainly sings himself hoarse.
