High boot!

Post by scouseclaret » Wed Feb 08, 2017 9:10 pm

Derby's goal just came from an INDIRECT free kick awarded for a high challenge.

Why, then, were Arsenal awarded a penalty when Ben Mee committed the same offence????

Ref got it right tonight. Ref got it wrong against Arsenal. Doesn't matter if it's in the box or not, it's an indirect free kick, always has been!

If the offence is punishable with an indirect free kick then there is nothing in the rules to prevent an indirect free kick being given inside the box.

You get a penalty if you're fouled in the box whilst being offside.

A high boot that doesn't make contact is dangerous play, indirect free kick. A high boot that does make contact is kicking, direct free kick.

If the ref thought Mee kicked koscelny in the head he should have sent him off.

Only if he thought it was deliberate. If he thought it was a genuine attempt to get the ball, and wasn't one of those two footed (which it couldn't be, unless you're Jackie Chan!) or out of control tackles, then it's just a foul.
