Minutes 45-50

As per other current threads the atmosphere is vastly improved this season at home.

However, the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half are always remarkably quiet, its as if the game has re-started and nobody has noticed.

I think its a similar situation at Wembley and Old Trafford where a good part of the crowd are enjoying their half time meals. The players are switched on but not the crowd.

I find it strange each game and cant really think of the cause of this.

I think it's to do with a lot of Burnley fans being borderline alcoholics and pieholics. They make their way to the concourse at about 40 minutes and don't appear gain until 50, in that time eating as many pies and downing as many pints as they can. I don't get it either, I'd never put anything, even alcohol and pie above football, but I suppose if they pay for their ticket they are entitled to do as they wish. Even if that includes making everyone stand up again 5 minutes into the second half

I'm at my seat at the start and never move till the game is over,I pay for 90 minutes and 90 minutes is what I watch don't understand paying £3 for a pie that'S on offer at Tesco for 60p :D

no doubt that its connected to the number of fans in the concourses.

To be fair to the fans its more to do with the length of queues and how long it takes the staff to serve the fans. Many other clubs seem a lot more prepared - for example with pre poured pints.

Means for most fans that by the time they are served they have only a few minutes to eat / drink....its a good job many fans are quick drinkers. That`s why at wembley its 15 minutes as those southern softies are still sipping their martinis !

The time it takes to get served at the food outlets is one of the problems. You don't understand paying £3.00 for a pie you can get in Tescos for 60p?! You are not at Tescos you are at a football match. Hot food and convenience. By the same token I hope you never go to pubs. A can of beer only costs a pound.

It doesn't help that in the Longside upper, the middle bars aren't opened at all - causes a huge amount of congestion of either end of the concourse, in and around the traffic going to and from the toilets.

It would take around 15 mins or so to walk to Tesco and get served at half time.

Invariably Hollands pies are in the freezer section at supermarkets and thus would need to defrost before cooking. Plus you get 5 pies as opposed to 1 so you'd have to be able to store the other 4 for the duration of the second half.

Allowing ample defrost time and 40 minutes to cook (could microwave in about 5 mins but it leaves the pastry more soggy than usual) your 60p pie would not be ready until say 7.40pm on a 3pm kick off.

Makes the £3 for a hot pie in a 15 minute window of opportunity look decent value to be fair.

Ok you keep paying through the nose,I walk past Tesco on the way to the Turf so I'll stuff my pockets with 5 pies £2.80 + 10% staff discount,I'm a right greedy B**stard

I'd pay £3 not to eat a pie rather than eat them rock on the outside molten lava in the middle efforts!

It's a safety measure.

Lots of fans remain on the concourse for a few minutes extra just in case Chico's made
a return as the half time "turn".

A ghastly thought. :(

I'm amazed we havn't conceded/ scored more goals in this 5 minutes - perhaps that would speed people up on the way back to their seats?

Takes an age to use the loo...usually 3 or 4 deep at each urinal...doesnt help when people dont take any notice of the way in way out signs ..that creates a bottleneck.

You Longside upper tier people need to try the CFS.

We can't even get down onto the concourse. The only place selling beer is at the bottom of the steps.
By the time you have made it to the bogs the 50min mark is up.
Then I need a fag.
It's a wonder I see any of the 2nd half at all.

Toilets? Way in way out signs? You lucky, lucky, barstewards.

In the CFS it is he who weighs most gets through/back out first.

I agree the design of the concourses is very poor with regards to people movement.

spot on about the post half time atmosphere, it is a bit surreal .
Its as if the first few minutes of the second half don't really count !

as for the pie conondrum, just take a pie from home if the price seems steep at the match.
