I'm told that there will be no children alongside the players when the teams come out for the Lincoln game. Instead the club have invited a number of pensioners to walk out alongside them.

Ray Simpson's two books had two different dob's for Smelt but both were wrong. It's 1890 in the Chronicles but he was born in December 1883 and played his last game in April 1925.

Pensioners? Bit misleading that if what they said on R5 is right..they have to be over 69.

My Dad missed out he's only 90 and was a club numbers agent for Burnley for 40yrs when they used to do the draws at half time

Based on the Beeb photo, it shows how supporting Burnley can help you stay healthy and "young at heart." Well done to all of them.

I'm wondering whether I know one or two from the Cat's Whiskers and The Hop - back in the day.

I suggest you get your Dad's name down for Wembley in May, iluva64.

Well done to the club.

Can we organise an over 60s team to play a warm up game another time?

Could we get a pensioners team together and play Blackburn, we could give rovers a two goal start to make it fair.

Great idea, great PR.
Amazed at the predominantly negative response on here.
How about mascots drawn from the miserable, small minded sods on this thread? Plenty of choice.

Why is it such a bad idea? My wife, who is an older adult Psychologist, seems to think it is a good idea to promote the clubs ethos of embracing all areas of the community.

But are we sure that we want this to become a theme? How many variations of "community" are there? It's really people setting themselves apart from the mainstream. I prefer things that bring people together, not set them apart.

Totally agree.

Now then "IF" we manage to make it to the Semi's at Wembley......
A BIG IF at this stage.......
But "IF" we get that far.........................

How Cool would it be to have our Oldest Surviving EX Players walking out?

Football did not start in 1992.

I agree with that part. But I get tired with "do-gooders", mostly because they end up with their hand in my pocket.

It isn't a bad idea. It's a bit of fun that's all. That's what having these older mascots at this match is, a bit of lighthearted fun and it will probably only happen once. The older mascots lucky enough to be picked will all be outgoing and up for having a laugh and I hope the club lay on a great day for them. I'm sure it will.
