Blackburn's magic numbers

by Vince Fontaine
I love magic numbers and thought it might be fun to watch the magic numbers that each team has in relation to our friends down the road. So here goes
Newcastle..................8
Brighton.....................9
Huddersfield..............13
Reading......................14
Leeds..........................17
Sheffield wed .............19
Norwich.......................23
Fulham........................25
Barnsley......................25
Preston........................26
Derby............................27
Cardiff...........................32
Ipswich........................34
Birmingham.................34
Brentford......................37
Aston villa....................38
Nottingham forest.......38
Wolves..........................39
QPR...............................40
Bristol city.....................42
Burton...........................43
Wigan............................45
Rotherham....................57
Remember if Blackburn lose all numbers drop by 3. If they draw all magic numbers drop by 2. If a team wins their own number drops by 3 and if they draw it drops by 1.
When all teams bar 2 are at zero then Blackburn are down.
Sit back and enjoy

Whether they go down or not, they're screwed. It might take another season but I'm happy to watch the slow, inevitable death.

Let's just hope the Venky's manage to cash in those magic beans Coyle flogged them or we could see quite a messy Indian summer.

That still only gives them 47 points. The last ten years suggest that 55 points guarantees safety. Anything less puts you in the mix and you have to rely on three teams having nightmares. Only Rotherham look like racing certainties for relegation. Peterborough were relegated with 54 points in 2013. Leicester were relegated in 2008 with 52 points.

I predict 11 points out of that lot, only because Forest are awful and Bristol will have nothing to play for.
Going..
Going..
Gone!
(Just jinxed it now, they'll probably fall just short of a play-off spot now!)

Really? Every team apart from Rotherham are above them for a reason. The reason being the ba5tards are crap.

There's a nasty run of games in the middle that looks as if they'd be lucky to get 4 points from 6 - but then they took 6 points from Newcastle somehow. Thankfully, they are just as likely to get dusted by Burton away.
I can't be arsedenough to fix this onto my text alerts

Looking at that list, I can see them getting another 10 points. Reasonably conservatively. I would be surprised if they get less than that.
Unfortunately, they are still fighting. I'd like them to die off....but would that force the hand from Pune into doing something drastic?

This would mean they would ha a record over their next 15 matches of
W...5...D...3...L...7
That would affect their magic number by 27 meaning that some teams that are their rivals at the bottom would only have to get 3/4 wins and a draw

Spreadsheet showing the same

My magic numbers are one higher as Vince's version allows Blackburn to be level on points whereas mine is the impossible to overtake one point extra.

Whilst we've lost Agent " Iron-Bru " , Messrs: Cole, Sordell & hopefully Kightly are deep undercover in the badlands of Derbyshire and planning an audacious Friday night raid...

Bristol and Wigan are doing everything they can to keep the Fiddlers up.
Still if they start next year with Mowbray in charge they'll have another long Winter.

Wigan look doomed, as well as Rotherham.
Between three or four to avoid third bottom.

Well, Reading are warming up by beating Dirty Leeds at the moment.

I went to the Reading vs Burnley game when we were already up in the 14/15 season. I found the Reading fans I spoke to, to be sound as a pound and wished us well in the Premier League. So for that reason, I hope they beat Leeds and Blackburn

Is that the game where they invaded the pitch by mistake thinking they'd make the play offs?
I was there too, I still joke about that now.

It was. Mistaken the commentary on Forest v Brighton from memory. They were applauding us until there was a line of stewards and Old Bill in front of them, then started giving it Billy Big ********. Funnily enough they were all sound outside the ground when i spoke to a few of them......

Tough run in, especially with Forest and Bristol in that run, they need to prey someone else collapses, whilst going on a run of their own at the same time.
