First time he's lets us down, disgraceful theatrics today. Let's hope he makes up for it next week

I was gobsmacked. To rise to it from a non league team top

He was disgusting with the petulant little stamp on Rhead then theatrical and simulated dive from a non contact elbow. He set the tone for a display where we got drawn into physical confrontation rather than try to football our way past them.

The dive (drop to the floor) was so bad it was funny. That was the Barton of old and not nice to see at all.

It was clearly premeditated as well, he told Tarks to move out of the way so he could do it.
Pathetic.

YOU HAVE IT ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.
Don`t think it will but could really set some strange `tones` in our dressing room for the rest of the season.

Not a fan of all that fakery and play acting. Sad thing was he was probably our best player out there today.

Not his best day as a claret.
Still glad he is though.....

He'll be lucky if he avoids FA scrutiny for a few of those incidents.
The stamp, the cheating fall and finally the digging his fingernails into the Lincoln players' face.
Last thing we need.

Lost his cool. Flanagan got him booked!

For those who can lip lead, he said to one player who knocked him down, "Go away you f*ckin lump".
Didn't he also grab one of their players by the neck, when he was given the yellow card? That could have easily been red and out of the Hull game.

Dragged down to their level and several of our players need to take a long hard look at themselves.

Very, very disappointing to see so many negative comments.
Most weeks he's kicked from pillar to post !
In addition he was still our best player today.
And there number 9 was a lump !

Rhead was persistently fouling him and it was obviously their tactic to try and get him sent off. I'm not condoning what he did and how he did it but Rhead should have been booked well before Barton started retaliating.

I said the same during the game, they were targeting him to get a reaction.

Rubbish they got stuck in like we do against the bigger teams and Rhead was nowhere near as dirty and niggley as Barnes is every week.
Barton let himself down today but hopefully its a one off

I hope Dyche fines him for that, it's annoyed me more than the performance of the team and the result. No place for it in football

This thread is a disgrace. Barton is what Barton is. Like the rest of the team he was poor but at least he showed some fight and passion. Shocking anyone turning on him.

Depends which one he got a yellow for as that can't be changed.

Well it wasn't a stamp was it? Never in a million years.
Joke what he did afterwards though.

It was Flanagan who could have got a red in the Barton yellow card incident.
Barton had been a victim of Rhead's elbow on a couple of occasions where I thought the ref could have done more to protect him. That's no excuse for him reverting to type though. I hope Dyche is able to have a strong word with him. It's such a pity and can't have helped his teammates.

I need to see the push again as I thought it was not Joey who pushed the player, but I could easily be wrong.

I've seen the incident in question and there's no doubt that Barton was trying to get Rhead in bother. The fact that he's now denying it is pathetic - I'd rather he didn't comment at all. It's poor from him.

Barton has improved his temperament hugely with us. If this was to be the game Barton acted up I'm glad it was relatively minor and no longer repercussions. Now the gaffer can have a word and cut it out.

UTTERLY PATHETIC! Barton simply lost the plot and...I don`t know. He should be embarrassed BUT doubt he will.
p.s. Barton has been a legend for us and makes us tick...just a bad day at the office.

Rhead was dirty and was not impressed with him. That was like the Barton of old though and we haven't seen that with us before.

It was Flanagan who did the push. Earlier in that incident Barton had pushed him a bit but the Lincoln player had stood his ground. Then Flanagan gave him a shove and he fell down, a bit easy I thought. Very stupid.

Didn't see a performance like that coming from him , the fact he is trying to defend himself on twitter makes it worse.

A lot of sanctimonious remarks being made here. Throughout JB's Burnley career he has been sinned against far more than sinner. In today's game he gets repeatedly elbowed from a non league lump and attempts to win an advantage by getting him dismissed. It's a shame he got caught.
