I like this guys simplistic recipes making something from nothing.to something simple as a sandwich his working kitchen and outlook on food are so laid back i like his style of creating a relaxing theme to his programme...whos your favourite or annoying tv chef? Floyd though was my favourite back in the day a great personality.

He always strikes me as a bit of a sad, lonely bloke who makes some exotic dishes and then gently takes a small portion and eats it on his own in an empty kitchen.

I like slater too. Very cool and calm, and his food looks proper good without being poncey.

And the big lad Tom kerridge. He has that funny West Country accent.

Oh, and nigella. Tried some of her recipes and they were a little disappointing, but if there is a better looking and sexier female tv chef, I'd like to see her.

I like Gordon Ramsey for some reason. Hell's Kitchen USA and Kitchen Nightmares are both guilty pleasures of mine when it comes to easy, mindless tv to watch.

Yes thats the point of the thred really i couldnt have ramsey ranting in my kitchen... its the calm of slater and his simplistic approach that appeals to me.

This Tuesday,Id like to eat my pancakes covered in syrup and cream off Nigellas ample Bosom,but there is about as much chance of that as the Clarets have of winning away this season..

If you've ever watched the drama of his childhood, you might have a better understanding of why he seems to be quite a withdrawn bloke.

But as sexy as Nigella is, she doesn't come close to Rachel Khoo!

With nigel slater the whole preparing the food hes salvaged appeals. with nigella i have to admit the food at times can be secondary.....youve now brought a new meaning to licking out the mixing bowl!

Nigel Slater is my favourite. Nice and simple...it's only food but tasty food.

Might be time to bring Gary Rhodes back....maybe, not sure.

She's a handsome woman, and no mistake.

I watched his programme a couple of years back about making meals from leftovers. He then proceeded to drag an enormous salmon out of his fridge. I don't know too many people who can boast having a such a huge fish as leftovers, more likely to be half a tin of sardines in my case.

Slater makes dishes up without a mix of vitamins.carbs and strange ingredients that no way resemble anything normal home cooks could copy.

I try not to waste anything foodwise now....dependant on the potatoe i wash the skins and cut em up oil seasoning spice em up a bit,bananas going black into the blender!! What i cant salvage i give the birds ,The amount of food in some supermarket trolleys baffles me.....and most will be wasted.no i dont live in a cave.

I have a soft spot for Nigella there is something about her voice. Also like Lorraine Pascal

One of life's greatest pleasures is a crying Jamie Oliver. Unfortunately it doesn't happen enough to justify watching any of his shows.

Tough call. First I'd try both their mixing bowls, but would then happily settle the debate with a toss up between them.

+1 for Keith Floyd. His style of cooking was very flavoursome, liked a bit of tradition but didn't mind mixing it up and using everything he had available, and as a character he was very entertaining to me. I'm a fan of James Martin too, his stuff is more 'down to earth' and he seems to pick out the important parts of a meal and enhances them whilst keeping it relatively straightforward

I once met Brian Turner when I worked down in Brighton. He was a right arrogant ballbag. Needless to say he's my least favourite.

I like some of the cooking programmes, barring any with Nigel Slater in them. I find his demeanour off putting, almost creepy.

Tom Kerridge, Heston Blumenthal (not that any of it could be done at home) or Simon Rogan.

Nigella et al are cooks not chefs.

No one mentioned Rick Stein yet? He seems a really likable chap and his shows travelling around the world are great.

Plus, if you look a bit deeper, he seems to be a bigger pisshead than Flloyd and that, in my book, is fantastic!

Floyd was OK at the time but nowadays his dishes look like un-arranged plates of vomit compared to the creations that are about in this century.

Enjoyed his travelling around the world,but then he just started to annoy me for some reason.a bit of an ego springs to mind though hes obviously a good chef.....

Yea theres no colour in his dishes and no presentation...i think it was his slurping from the wine bottle and his cavalier approach to life that appealed, he was to cooking? What higgins and best were to sport.

Next time you watch a Rick Stein show, look out for his Ralph Lauren clothing. If it ain't Ralph, Rick won't wear it.

All these chefs annoy at times especially when they book some veg splat it on a piece of meat at zany angles then go look at that as though they have invented the wheel. I sometimes think FFS twelve hours from now it'll be a turd bobbing its way to Blackpool.

Your first line is what i relate to also.....thats the bit that grates me.

Rick steins souvlaki marinade recipe is top notch. Mainly a combination of dried 'easy to get hold of' spices with just garlic,lemon juice and olive oil the only fresh ingriedients.
He does it with pork but I like it on chicken
In fact I'm doing it for my 45th 3 points against Swansea sportsmania party on Saturday

Love Nigel Slater. Had quite an 'interesting' life. His book, 'Toast' is a cracking little read.

My favourite TV chef is Simon Hopkinson.

Will have a read of that..

Nigel Slater is one of these TV chefs that appear never to eat a whole meal. A supper or two here, a light bite before brunch there. And always painstakingly crafted from expensive leftovers wrapped in artisan store brown paper.

All very contrived for me. Just get a proper tea down thi' and stop faffing.

And don't get me started on that Simon Hopkinson, with his Matrix style camera angles to show off the slow motion subtleties of parboiling a spud.

Used to quite enjoy Saturday Kitchen when James Martin was in charge, or parts of it at least. Now you get an annoying Irish bloke one week, a humourless Jeremy Corbyn clone the next, and an occasional fat bird with an annoying voice. Just not the same.

What I really hate though are those episodes where you get some posh upper middle class bint who describes every thing as squidgy. FFS

Nigel Slater's books Real Fast Food and the 30 Minute Chef are both pretty decent. They don't tend to have lengthy lists of esoteric ingredients and most stuff is fairly quick to prepare.

Floyd an old favourite,flamboyant fun and not TOO fancy dan. Slater is ok but just a bit "too nice " for me. If he fancied you he'd possibly drug you with some exotic concoction and you'd wake up naked tied to a bed with Slater stood over you in leather chaps offering you homemade sausage.

Nigella's getting on a bit now but what red bloodied man hasn't imagined the buxom coke fiend working wonders with chocolate sauce and whipped cream.

The "greedy italians" Carluccio and his buudy are good fun as well,top chefs with a huge passion for the food.The dishes can be quite easily cooked as well ,without the need for a hand reared wood pigeon and peruvian pears picked by bare breasted virgins and the like.
