If you could own one work of Art, what would you choose?
The message of Picasso's Guernica appealled but I'm not sure I'd want to live with it. Always loved the lighting in Carravagio's paintings. Maybe a Rothko? Something that just speaks to your soul. Sometimes small and is beautiful but I've seen the Mona Lisa and was totally underwhelmed.
Has a work of Art ever moved you to tears? I once saw charcoal drawings done in Auschwitz...the artists fingerprints where they had smudged the charcoal.

Rembrandt's The Night Watch. Love how it fades from the gold at the centre, through the different shades of lighting to the blackness at the extremes.

"Whistler's Mother" - which is in the Musee d'Orsay in Paris - is one of my favourites, although I'm not actually sure why!

Minnie & Reb, 2 great paintings! Whistler's Mother is almost an abstract composition in greys. Rembrandt is up there with Carravagio.

Of the classics I like all the big ones really - Constable's Haywain, The Mona Lisa, That famous one by Dick Van Dyke with the guy on a horse, Whistlers Mum....actually no, I'm really bored of seeing that lot, I do quite like Turners atmospheric landscapes though.

Turner's "The Fighting Temeraire", not just for it's artistic merit but also its significant message, a bright, new industrial era replacing the old.

I can't claim to know anything about art but I always liked The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh. So I guess I'd choose that

Yup, another for the "the fighting temeraire" here as well.
Got to admit, anything with the old sailing ships in by the Dutch masters I'd happily take as well.

My favourite artist is Caravaggio. Simply breathtaking art and 'The Incredulity of St. Thomas' is stunning.
I like Rothko too.
Just bought a couple of prints by Scarlett Raven from her collection around 'The Danger Tree'. She specialises in Augmentation Art and these prints are inspired by the Battle of the Somme and poetry from war poets like Sassoon. If anyone is interested a link:

Nighthawks by Edward Hopper. I always find this painting captivating. The innocence of the scene with the intriguing mystery of exactly what's going on.
The one painting that literally took my breath away was Dali's The Metamorphosis of Narcissus when I unexpectedly came across it at Tate Liverpool.

van Gogh - Bridge at Arles:

I have a print of one of them. I Iike the style of bridge - reminds me of my younger days in Holland - and the light - it's 'summeryness'.
I like the works of this fellow too:

is Art in this case just limited to paintings/drawings? I like sculpture also, Like Lorenzo Quinn very much son of the famous actor and made a name for himself in the art world.
Brother in-law been buying a few Bob Dylan's but not my taste, however, do like a lot of his music.

I collect art (also deal in it) - mostly Modern British from the 1950-1980s. Got a lot of work by the likes of Alan Davie, William Gear, Lynn Chadwick, Terry Frost etc etc. As for a favourite piece? Really can't answer, so much good stuff out there! Can't deny I wouldn't like a big Barbara Hepworth bronze in the garden though...

Another vote for Constable here and 'The Haywain'. A picture telling a story. Another picture telling a story is Hogarth's ' Before and After'.

i remember seeing that in Amsterdam and was amazed at the sheer size of it,,,it is seriously huge,
as to my favourite, the head of medusa in the Uffizi florence by carravagio, it just follows you round the room, mesmorising
