The OP's team has been declared null and void for not including any players from the period 1987-1991.

Even the sorry lot in the OP would have p*ssed all over just about any team you care to perm from that era from a height so great it'd cease to be funny after about 10 minutes.

Who did Stan throw a wobble on and say these two will never play for Burnley again...Mark Winstanley ? Who was the other?

It was four.

Mark Winstanley, Lee Howey, Steve Blatherwick and "to a lesser extent because he will never win over the fans" Michael Williams.

From memory, I think it was four of them..

Steve Blatherwick, Mark Ford ( ? ), Mark Winstanley, and Mike Williams ( Williams, because he'd never win over the fans, although Stan acknowledged he was a trier )

keeper position is a 3 way battle between Roger Hansbury, Joe Neenan and Mark Kendal

I'd forgotten about Howey, I think Stan took a dim view of him because he complained of a back problem, but refused to move nearer Burnley, from his home, and drove long distances every day ...

Here's my Eleven, chosen not necessarily for shortage of talent, but also dis-interest and lack of commitment to the Claret cause...

1. Mark Kendall
2. Peter Leebrook
3. Darren Heesom
4. Steve Blatherwick
5. Jim Heggarty
6. Mark Ford
7. Phil Malley
8. Peter Mumby
9. Tony Hancock
10. Nick Pickering
11. Paul Stewart

I was just about to type " That lot would take some beating ! ", but based on their collective showings for us, they really wouldn't !!

Might mean the David Jones that I once saw play for us away at Orient.
Made Yakubu in his 2 1/2 minute viral video look like Desert Orchid.

This is a very subjective thread really. Some of those lads mentioned further up were literally thrown in at the deep end. Not really their fault.

On his day he was s cracking lower league player...who i reckon should have had a better career.
Playing for Aldershot, he tore Burnley ragged at Turf Moor.

Adrian Randall was one of those players that had absolutely no interest in football but was an exceptional player (at that time/level)

Randall scored a cracking goal away at Fulham in the early 90's.

Ady Randall was our early 90's, 4th Division version of Steven Defour in terms of control and touch.

If my dad was still alive he would want Peter Mellor in goal for this side. He disliked him with a passion, I remember thinking he looked cool with long blonde hair (Peter Mellor not my dad who was bald!), my dads description of him would be non PC these days to say the least but he is worth a mention just for my dads sake.

To put the 80's into perspective, I can remember us signing Ian Meashem I think from Maidstone and thinking he was a massive step up in terms of what we had!!!

I will swap W Thomas for S Blatherwick and put Phil Malley in alongside Mark Ford. Not sure about Left Back. Deakin improved immensely once we started whooshing. LB seems to have been a position subject to a lot of booing over the years but I'm struggling with the poorest of the lot.

He's been mentioned a few times already, Tony Hancock certainly stands out for me from an attacking point of view. Played superbly against us for Stockport and I remember being very excited when we signed him. Turned out he was a lot better at giving blood.

Half time draw ? I think it should be two for one if he does. Hancock and Stewart. The food outlets would double sales at half time.

I thinks it's unfair to put players with just a few minutes in the worst ever catagory. RVS, Nimani, Richards, Penny, Cinamo etc

I can't think of many crap players since the 90's to be fair, but here's some recent ones

Nathan Delfoneso, Duane Courtney, Leon Cort...

Pick any XI from the 85-86 and 86-87 squads*. No player before or since could eclipse the lack of talent in those teams.

*with the exceptions of Leighton James, Ian Britton and Neil Grewcock

Also, the OP has Danny Karbassyoon in here, very harsh. He got injured soon after joining which resulted in him having to retire. He was an exciting prospect.

For all their limitations all of Leebrook Heesom and Malley gave all they could for the shirt IMO,,, sadly they just weren't good enough.

Clarets4me that must be close to it but I don't agree with Peter Mumby being in there.
The thread is the worst Burnley 11 and not the most disinterested 11 or 11 that didn't try. Paul Stewart would appear in both though.

My Eleven

Kendall

Palmer Gallagher Moore Morgan

Waldron M, Gow, Sanhoko Pickering

Caughey. David Jones 89/90ish (worse player I've ever seen play for us)

Stewart for Sanhoko at half time..and Ian Heliwell would be on the squad photo

with people putting on players in the 80s , one came to mind not that he was not good for us he would have taken the ops team on his own in the dressing room and come out on top. Who remembers the meek and mild bloke from Bacup (that on its own is frighting )
But Andy Wharton what he lacked in skill he made for in terror.

Basically anyone who played in the 1986-87 season.

Statistically it is our worst ever league finish, so therefore, collectively the Burnley players that participated are clearly the worst in the club's history

So Leighton James is in your worst Burnley XI Braindead? And he's one of the worst in our history,, all about opinions I suppose !
