Robinson over Pope?

Post by KefkaClaret » Sat Mar 04, 2017 7:38 pm

Was he injured for this game? It does seem rather silly to rely on a 37 year old who's played 2 games in the last 2 years to rely on as a backup goalkeeper. Surely Pope is a better shot stopper?

I think Pope has just come back from an injury and maybe it was pushing it to start him. Mind you, he was on the bench but I guess you want to have a keeper on the bench, even if not 100%. Pope did well in the cup matches - think he has a good future ahead of him.

The Manager sees them day to day in training. He knows who he thinks is appropriate.

I hope that's the last we see of Robinson.
Second half he had an invisible cord stopping him leaving his line.
Similar to Given at Stoke, early season, when it's gone it's gone.

Yeah but the manager also thought the negative double substitution was appropriate and he also thinks bringing on a centre forward for 1 minute is enough to change a game when we are losing so maybe he is fallible and doesn'the always get things right?

I never even inferred he was infallible. I just pointed out that he is not only the person in the best position to chose the team, but he is also coincidentally the guy who actually picks the team.

He's also well on course to actually keeping us up this time. If he does, it won't make him infallible, but it will make him even more of a God than he already is.

I could understand the concept of having the vastly experienced Robinson on the bench ahead of Pope, especially if it gives Pope the opportunity to play every week in the Dev squad for some genuine action.
But I wouldn't select Robinson ahead of Pope, who rarely gets any action at all and surely deserves his chance.

Robinson looked good the previous fill in appearances but seemed flat footed/frozen at times. I think pope is now #2 behind Heaton but also might still be recovering from whatever injury he had.

37 years old? He looked less agile than me, 50!

Didn't command his box, flapped at a corner just before they got the winner. Awful. We'd have got a point if heaton was in goal despite the rubbish team performance

He cost us. Don't want to see him in a Burnley shirt again. Ever!

That's modern day debate right there.

Robinson has not played for several years and it showed.Watching him was like watching highlights of keepers in the lower divisions.
Has the defence(Mee in particular) to thank for it not being 6 or 7. Its made me appreciate Heaton more. THink we might even have won with him

Just watched the game in full and literally signed in to see if there was a Robinson thread. We would have been better off with Tarkowski in goal, Robinson was that shite

I was puzzling over why there were so many likes. I'd missed that they were all the same user. Maybe the "multiple duplicates" were an attempt to "unlike?"

If you watch the interview in the - Dyche post match interview thread he says Pope was injured - so we only had Robinson left
