Do you accept we will be relegated?

So do you accept that at some point we will be relegated? If not this season (looking unlikely fingers crossed etc.) but maybe next season or the one after but certainly in the next few years...

I accept that every season we stay in the division that our first target will be 40 points.

Not if we are good enough to stop up year on year.
For example, there will be teams of the like of Brighton and Huddersfield
coming up, so if we build and buy properly close season, we have a seasons start on them,
So there's no reason why we can't finish above at least three teams.
Providing we prepare.

But any club could be relegated at some point. Even Chelsea, Man City et al may go down in the next 40 years. I think we're going in the right direction. We seem to be doing better than 2 years ago and have therefore moved forward. I think it all comes down to whether we stay up this season. If we can stay up, I reckon we'll stay up for a while.

That's not what I said.
As Factual Frank says, any club can be relegated, so it's a daft question.
But there's no reason we should automatically accept it, because as I set out in my first post,
if we prepare properly, we can do as well as anyone in our position.

I quite like yo-yoing,it gets tiresome only winning about eleven or twelve games a season, and I still think the Championship is far better than the Premier league,so yes we will be relegated again in the short term, but we will be back after a 100 points gained season in the Championship, with about thirty victories to boot.Happy days...Yo-Yoing did West Brom no harm at all.

Agree, Lancs.
Every season is a new competition. It's great to be in the Premier League - we need to work hard on being competitive.
No team has a "God given right" to be in the Premier League. The clubs with the greatest resources have the best chances to remain at the top - but both ManU and City have been relegated to division 2 in (my) living memory.
Who knows what will happen in future. Perhaps the league will change, perhaps a super-league will split off, perhaps money will be distributed more evenly, perhaps football on TV will become less popular so less money or perhaps China will become the new football super power and all the top players will move there.
Whatever, let's enjoy while we are in the Prem - and continue to enjoy if in future years we aren't.

Yeah spot on.
I think the main aim, as one of the 'smaller clubs', will be survival but the main excitement will come from the potential to have better Cup runs, make it to semis and finals etc. (and win one!). Keep accumulating for the future, better players etc. But always one of the smaller clubs and always going to have a bad run at some point and be in the bottom 3 (within say 5 years).

Most clubs that face or get relegated, put themselves in that position by poor management, whether that's choice of manager or overpaying for players and wages. If they don't hit the ground running then the fear factor sets in. So the roller coaster begins. Change manager, change players, if possible, create more debt, create more fear.
I honestly believe the first year is the hardest. We will still be in a relegation battle next season, naive not to believe that, but as stated we will be far better prepared than many of our rivals.
The common sense and faith shown by our board means we could well be on our way to a long stint in the prem, even come the sad day when SD eventually moves on to pastures new.

The clubs flirting with the drop show quite clearly that you start anew each season. Other than Boro and Hull they have each spent many consecutive seasons with reasonable successes to look back on. But history counts for nowt and two or three bad managerial appointments have left them struggling. Even the top clubs have found it difficult to recover from poor managers. United, Liverpool, Everton and Chelsea have all spent time not challenging for the title their spending is aimed at.

Probably will be eventually....but might not be.
When we were in the 4th division going to the likes of Darlington and Hartlepool then the likelihood of us being in the premier league and earning £100m for one season were probably pretty slim in any sane fans mind.
It was not that long ago we were trying to raise £500k to avoid going into administration - in the last few weeks we picked up this "pocket money" for the simple fact that a couple of our players played in the Euros !!
So in terms of likelihood I`d say where we have come from in the last few decades to where we are now is less likely than staying in the premier league for the next many years. No reason why we should not end up a stable mid table club like Stoke - as clubs we have many similarities in terms of fan base, history, ownership etc.
Either way its not something that we should worry about - we should just enjoy it whilst we can.

At some point yes we will.
The key issues will be how we react to it and if we've become another club with ridiculous amounts of debt after giving in to agents and other clubs transfer fees etc.

...would be happy to use Stoke and West Brom as blueprints. They have both managed to improve year on year by tweaking the playing staff. Next season will be just as difficult, however, so long as we're going in the right direction that can allow SD to let the shackles off now and then: play with a bit more fluidity.

Whats wrong with relegation anyway?
I can't say I am enjoying watching Burnley now as much I was in say, 1998. I'm enjoying it just as much. I enjoyed last season, just as much as this season or from two or three seasons ago. Its just different, thats all.

Much the same can be levelled at a few clubs around us at the moment, & some of the clubs coming up may be our saviour..as they would be in a similar case to us finance wise & who they could attract. Stay up this time, and properly invest & we should be alright I guess.

we are not too different to Stoke, WBA or Swansea, we need to hang in there for a good 3 seasons then there is no reason why we can't stay up - it will be a tough ask though that's for sure.

Our History tells us we will and that we will find our way back eventually - how long the return takes will probably depend on how long we spend there this time - the more a small club adjusts to being a long term member of the premier league (wages, transfer fees, player types etc) the harder it proves to be to deal with relegation and a subsequent promotion push. The championship is a unique and ferocious beast and the kind of player and approach required to get out of it is different to that of a mid table club in the PL. If you are not in the mid table club and do a Sunderland for a good few years - the mental fatigue is also likely to be detrimental in the Championship without a rebuild.
That rebuild puts you back to square one if you get promoted - you need to have the memory in the club of how to get that promotion and how to fight for survival in the PL

yo-yoying is all very well until the string snaps !!
losing sean dyche will be that moment i feel.
seems a perfect fit at the moment, still can't believe it sometimes, that we are here. If we survive, I could see him leaving. We'll then be premier team, bit more cash, but then what? Who could manage us as effectively? Bearing in mind, he got us here on fairly meagre rescources twice.
Someone taking over at Burnley will have their work cut out to follow Dyche's achievements.

I accept that it's always a possibility, but accept that there's also no reason why we couldn't go on to establish ourselves as a mid table team and have a decent run in the division.
It'll never be easy for the smaller clubs but good ownership and management give you a head start on many of the nut job clubs that are out there.

Dyche staying is key to a longer term future in the Premier League in my view. He has improved the team season on season and I think he can continue to do this.
