Early summer targets.

Having a chat with a few mates yesterday about who we'd like to see wearing Claret and Blue next year now it looks likely we will stay up.

We were all in agreement that we still need a winger or two who has the ability to take full backs on (pace a bonus). Personally I'd like to see us target someone like Tom Ince who has youth on his side as well as an eye for goal.

Secondly we agreed that we need another goalscorer. I'd go for someone like Enner Valencia or Defoe (Although I imagine Defoe will have better suitors than us).

Anyone else have any early targets in mind?

I'd have Tom Ince as well. Might not have the defensive qualities SD likes but always entertaining and does score regularly at his current level.

An upgrade on both full backs is a priority. The Dyche system would work best with 2 quality full backs with pace who can cross a ball.

If we get this, then we don't necessarily need out and our wingers, but a player who can change a tight game with a moment of magic would be a bonus. Like When Leicester bought Mahrez for £250k

I'd take a look at Charlie Taylor, Andrew Robertson, keiron trippier and adama traore

The same argument applies though with Brady so far (too easy to say of course) as with ANY winger we sign. Will his prowess going forward be nullified by the framework Dyche will more than likely insist upon?

Tommy Smith
Andrew Robertson

You'd struggle to get an upgrade on Ward. He's had an excellent season.

Yes loan players can be bought from Chelsea - but only if they have failed to live up to earlier potential when tested at a higher level and that has occurred with more than one loan - see Bamford - Boro in Championship = solid potential; Norwich, Palace and Burnley in the Premier League = Fail and that appears to have extended to Boro too - does not even make the bench with or without Karanka

Even Sturridge, Lukaku and De Bruyne left Chelsea (albeit for huge fees - we still cannot afford) after failing at Chelsea and tammy is not tested at that level yet

The back 5 should be built around. But we will lose keane and maybe heaton. Ward is outstanding.

Ince is a very good player but suspect he has too much baggage and isnt perceived as hard working enough. But him and Brady on the wings would give us much more going forwards. Just reckon it might be too flamboyant and ambitious for Dyche definitely both to start anyway. Pace on the wing is essential though.

A replacement for Marney and presumably Barton and Defour.

A possible replacement for Gray and an upgrade on Barnes.

This is all presuming we stay up.

Might be a more difficult window than last summers. Wonder if thats why so many have second season syndrome.

and where would we get that from - even assuming that we don't keep Keane and possibly Heaton and/or Gray - That is a lot of players to integrate into a squad/team

realistically I would expect 2 possibly 3 new first team players in the summer with maybe 1 or 2 in January - incremental steps - I already expect a signigicantly different regular first team line - up from last two next season from within our current squad - pre season is the key to the evolution

Is Heaton a blocked word?

A forward has to the absolute priority. Someone capable of showing composure in front of goal, dropping deep and linking up, and playing up front on his own effectively when required.

Will be hard to find someone with all those qualities, but again I find myself thinking Jay Rod would be perfect for us.

Will do but you will HAVE to send a reminder!

I can see Heaton going somewhere like Liverpool, Keane back to United and Gray a Palace or West Ham. Keeping Mee is the most important aspect of our team-building - in my opinion).

Same as last Summer for me, target number one should be Andrew Robertson.

Maguire is a good shout to replace Keane providing Hull drop.

And how many are regular starters - like I said I think they will make for a much changed starting line up next year - so only a couple of new signings will make regular starters - pre season is important to Dyche need to have it in them to understand the DNA of a Dyche mentality.

last two starting line -ups have been Championship team plus Hendrick - and he would have possibly been omitted for a fit Marney - next season likely to see a very different Midfield 4 with Hendrick possibly being the remaining starter - I think the other changes will be in attack and defence if we fail to keep hold of Keane

Aaron Mooy looks a decent midfielder and has had good season for Huddersfield. Can't see him making City's first team.

A Summer spent learning to cross the ball would be cheaper and defensively they are sound.

Ludicrous chat on here. Having signed Defour, Hendrick, Brady, Westwood and Gudmundsson in the last 2 windows, the last thing we need is a complete midfield overhaul. In fact if Barton re-signs then midfielders wouldnt really feature on my priority list.

Exactly what we need depends on who leaves, but Hull strike me as having a few players who could suit us. Apart from Maguire and Robertson, Clucas is a player I like and who could do a job wide in our 442, and Niasse (though on loan) is as obvious a replacement for Gray as i can think of.

Certainly If Gray and Keane leave, then a more attacking left back, a back up centre back, a wide player and a couple of forwards - at least one to be a far more skilful operator able drop off in the "Barnes role" would be our priorities. If we're thinking of playing 451 more, then it'd be handy if one of those forwards was quick and could play wide as well as through the middle. But that is 5 players and that's plenty.

I doubt they would sell and I doubt we could afford his wages (no idea what he's on) but we could continue the Irish theme and have a cheeky bid for Shane Long

I think we should sign Shane Long if available. Suits our style and work rate down the ground.

Assuming (desperate hope here) no one leaves - I would like to see us work on more flexibility in structure that has shown itself at times this season - I would like us to be better and more comfortable in possession (never seem to win - when we have the most - except Leicester home). Our most cultured player works better for us in a midfield 3 and I think we have currently have the players to play a defensive 3 - not convinced we have the players to play wingbacks though I do think we could play a forward 3 - meshing this capability into an effective team is different though.

I believe Sean wants this flexibility and would utilise if he could find the players and develop a structure that does not weaken us defensively - it is down to who he can attract/retain

Can't see Heaton leaving at all. Gray I think will stay but Keane will move on.

Would like Maguire or Davies from Hull as a replacement.
Trippier would be great to have back but don't think we need to improve on Ward at all, he's been great.

Should Marney nor resign, Barton not be available and the possibility of Defour leaving (doubt that though) I'd like to see us go for Fabian Delph (Wages permitted).

Winger with flair (Tom Ince). A striker who knows where the net is such as Valencia, Defoe or Shane Long.

I imagine wingers like Aaron Lennon and Ashley Young would be available but not sure of their desire any more.

My player of the season so far without question

But he won't be around forever. He needs a young understudy

I'd also get another RB, replacement CB for Keane, creative midfielder (if Defour leaves, or play him higher up the pitch), Marney replacement, pacey winger, and a skilful goalscorer

I expect maybe 2 of those in the summer

yeah, but to be fair they struggle to score because we don't create any chances, Long often creates his own due to his work rate, his movement is excellent

If we're shopping at Southampton, then there's another striker on the fringes of their team who can operate as a second striker, out wide or even as the main front man who would tick a lot of boxes for us. And whilst i'd not say no to Long, I reckon Rodriguez is probably a more realistic target.

I also can't see Heaton leaving unless a big team promised him the number 1 position. He's in the England squad by playing every week, sitting on a bench at this stage of his career would seem like something Tom wouldn't be the slightest bit interested in

I think we need to look further afield for incoming.
Europe, Africa, South America, wherever.

There are good players out there and would cost much less than anyone from
the Championship and not necessarily expect 40k+ a week.
Other teams have done it before and managed to get a few decent ones.
Even Wigan, if my memory serves me right got quite a few in for a number of seasons
whilst in the Premier League and then sold on one or two of the better ones on
for healthy profits.
Valencia to Man U comes to mind

Not sure we have the scouting network but do recall Dyche saying a little while back
that we'll be looking further afield.

Cannot see us topping more than £35k-£40k pw for even our most exceptional signings next year - so we need to tamper our enthusiasm for names and look for potential in football league or abroad

players in

barton - playes week in week out

westwood - new player and brought in to cover

hendrick week in week out

defour injured but would be in most weeks

Gudmundsson injured but would be in most weeks

brady - new player but will play week in week out so almost all players brought in would be regular starters
