I'm looking at organising a trip to Germany next year to go on a bundesliga game and have a couple of days drinking in a German city. Hamburg and Berlin are two cities that have stood out to me due to cost and places to drink.
Has anyone any experience of doing this and what would they recommend? Also how easy is it to aquire tickets?

Atmosphere wise all are good. Schalke probably noisiest but it was 67k inside with the roof closed.

If you fancied Gladbach i can get you tickets easily at face value. Top atmosphere and great fans. Gladbach is a bit like Burnley. Industrial and full of pubs haha but not touristy. Depends what you want. You could stay in neighbouring koln which is a beautiful city. From Koln you can get to Gladbach dortmund gelsenkirchen leverkusen dusseldorf and tons of other football cities in an hour or so.

Ive got tickets easily for most games in fairness except koln vs bayern. Paid over the odds but was worth it. Koln came from 2 down to win 3-2.

Wouldnt recommend Frankfurt as a city but the stadium was inpressive but aside from that as a city its like a big canary wharf.

Seen Gladbach, Schalke, Koln, Bayern, Osnabruck, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Greuter Feurth, Freiburg and Hertha Berlin.

Best fans probably Gladbach, Schalke or Stutttgart. Osnabruck surprisingly impressive too but theyre struggling now.

Freiburgs a nice city and a great setting but atmosphere not all that but better than here still.

Hamburg will get You a nite on the Reeperbahn. And that's a rare treat.

Germany is a great place, I'm sure you will love it anywhere.

Yep most cities are great and the atmosphere and matchday experience is far better than here. Make sure you adopt a team as it makes it more interesting although nothing comes close to supporting your own club so make the most of the experience!

If you plan it around European fixtures you could 5 games out of a 6 day break. Tuesday/Wednesday Champions league Thursday Europa Saturday/Sunday league games.

Yes we got 2 in when we went last year. Only got one in this year but my brother did it over a european weekend and got 3 in.

If you go somewhere like koln you will definitely get a few in.

Also there are some big clubs and good atmospheres in bundesliga 2

Go to munich during oktoberfest and combine the great beer with a visit to watch Bayern

Went to see Cologne v Frankfurt and was sat in the section next to the away fans which was an experience and a half.

Did a organised pub crawl which considering we were the only males on it and the rest of the group were all middle aged German women was one of the best nights

Middle-aged German women? Sound alright to me.

Went to see Frankfurt v Ingolstadt a few weeks ago. In 45 years of watching footie I have never enjoyed watching a crowd as much. Incredible atmosphere even though they lost. Never stopped singing.

Best game I have ever been on.

Going to East Berlin soon so would like to see a game if it fits in with other things, but also want to see the Everton and Man U games as well on a tv somewhere.

I certainly won't be paying over the odds for a ticket though sooner not see a game.

What do you think the chances are?

I went to watch Werder Bremen and combined it with a visit to the Becks Brewery. Bremen is quite a compact city and ground is easily accessible.

Codger will be at the St Pauli v Heidenheim game at the end of April in Hamburg (an excellent city to visit). Looking forward to the prawn cocktail sandwiches!

Hamburg is a quality City, St Pauli v Union Berlin was my fixture, doesn't get much more iconic than St Pauli. But beware as the fixtures are only confirmed days before they take place.

A sound tip Dearydeary and I have been awaiting confirmation from my friend in Hamburg who has a hospitality box at the Milerntor so should be fine.
