Can we watch this from episode one or is it a waste of time if you haven't seen the previous episodes?

The last time I watched this it was about one of the officers shooting dead someone and asking the rest to cover his back - was this episode one?

You'll get into it I'm sure. If it's owt like the previous series it'll be superb.

It's not a waste of time, but it is recommended to watch it from S01E01 i've you've never watched it before.

I only watched the last series, which I enjoyed despite not watching previously. I tuned into this first episode last night, thought it developed very well then got completely thrown by the last 5 minutes (in a good way).

Thought it was good until the last 10 minutes when it became ridiculous and unbelievable.

very good series.

Easy to watch, even if you have never seen it before.

Was really enjoying it when it was about the politics of the investigation, but it became too far-fetched in the last 5 mins.

I'll be tuning in next week though.

Thought the last scene was a pisstake on Westworld with the same actress and was a bit too much farce, but that aside it was terrific and for anyone wanting to catch up, I think it's on Netflix and just this show would be worth a month's HD subscription then cancelling it.

Last night's opening episode was going well until the Forensic Co-ordinator went out shopping wearing his balaclava. I still enjoyed it though.

Did he go shopping in it? I thought he went back into his apartment making sure the balaclava was on the security cameras to make out it was the serial killer who did it and not him.

What was so bad about the ending?
It was very dramatic but isn't it always?

Great show, I'm with the "watch it from the beginning" crowd if you have the time.

I thought the most far-fetched bit was that Vicky McClure's character can still go undercover after the events of the previous series.
As the officer who took down "The Caddy" surely she would have enough notoriety throughout the police force to be instantly recognisable by now.
Speaking of those monumentous goings-on I also would have thought this series would have been dealing, at least in part, with the fallout from them.
It seems to be business as usual though with no repercussions.

I'm interested in how Steve's going to fare this series. In the first episode it looked like he resented not having superior rank to Kate and if he doesn't get the promotion he's asked for it'll be interesting to see how he reacts to such a rejection. I wonder if it would lead him to become corrupt because after last series he might feel he was harshly treated by people who should have trusted him more, and without even the compensation of a promotion he might become disillusioned. And after he was wrongly accused of being The Caddy, if he does become corrupt, it'll be more difficult to accuse him again.

This probably isn't the direction it's going.

Maybe that's the next series plot..

Bump.

Any thoughts on last night's episode, without spoiling it for those yet to watch it ?

Still very enjoyable to watch and test the old brain cells - the plot thickens as they say.

After reading the OP we watched season 1 on netflix and enjoyed it apart from the outcomes.
Have enjoyed E1&2 the last week but could folk please put spoiler alerts up. I don't know who the caddy is and don't want to until I get caught up on those seasons.

Caddy starts in series 2 and is sorted out in series 3. There's spoilers above although I think (from memory) you know who the caddy is by the time Steve is suspected.

Ok, this series is killing it, best thing on telly by a country mile.
I'm currently watching The Expanse, The 100 and The Walking Dead (which is pretty crap but I'm invested so I persevere) and Line of Duty which is literally amazing.
I love the masterful use of sound effects in the dramatic sequences and Adrian Dunbar's angry, indignant good copper.
For a series which mainly features procedural interviews to make them so compelling and intense is brilliant.
This is the first series I've followed in real time, I shotgunned the rest over a two week period and now I'm caught up it's the only programme I really look forward too and watch intensely, I usually just flick through the others but Line of Duty is way too good for that.
Is it just me or does anyone else sit there on the edge of their seat when the tape makes that long noise before they commence an interview and they all look at each other going "f***ing come on!"??
I'm more than hooked, I'd rather watch this than The Wire, The Sopranos, Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad.
The only current show I like as much is "Better Call Saul".

"Didn't see that coming." And I think we might be repeating that comment again later in the series. Very clever writing. A few more twists and turns to come.

I am also a latecomer. Downloaded (at a cost) series 1,2 & 3 so have ended up with the DVDs as well. Really frustrating now having to watch Series 4 with a week between each episode!
I think I realised 30 seconds before what direction the plot was about to go in but was still open mouthed at the outcome!

Series 4. too many loopholes for me. I hate them.
With the accusations flying she would at least be suspended and locked out of the building.
She's still at the helm and tampering wherever she can.

Apart from that minor inconvenience I'm sticking with it. well acted and great spells of drama.
