Improvements to Burnley...

Over the last few days, I've noticed some of the projects that are being worked on in Burnley...

The Mitre has been demolished, the site cleared and the new building is ongoing. The " Plane Tree ", at the bottom of Westgate, has been sold and developers are working on it, presumably to convert into flats. The old tip site opposite Burnley College, is well on it's way to being the the new " Vision Park "
The Cloverbrook Mill site, on Gannow Lane is starting to take shape with it's planned 90 or so Retirement Bungalow's....

Good to see this Investment, all of which is on " Brownfield " sites..

Now, we could really look at the old Adelphi and Reindeer pub sites near Burnley Central Station...

Demolishing the Stoops, Burnley Wood and the majority of Accrington Road would be a great improvement.

For information, this is an answer to a PQ:

The European Regional Development Fund during 2010 – 2015 has provided over £5 million in funding for Burnley.
The breakdown of European Regional Development Fund projects in Burnley are as follows;
£3.8 million invested into Burnley Bridge Business Park. The Fund undertook activity to remediate the brownfield site, provide infrastructure and deliver a first phase of commercial development totalling 9,309 sqm.
£940,000 invested into Weavers Triangle. The funding was allocated to support high quality civic and infrastructure work in a strategic area of Burnley.
£500,000 invested into Princess Way Gateway for civic improvements linked to the Burnley Education and Enterprise Park.
In addition to the above direct capital investments, small and medium enterprises in Burnley have also benefitted from a number of business support projects operating at county and regional level. Not least the £7.8 million BOOST Lancashire Growth Hub of which the Fund has invested £3.4 million.

Should spend the money on an inner ring road/by-pass, otherwise you won't be able to go anywhere.

There is also the town centre improvements being made to the walkways, seating areas etc, which all help. I think it's the first time it's been touched since going pedestrianised 30 years ago. Starting to look really nice, and when Primark opens early next year I think that might bring another 2-3 named shops along too. I think M&S might close though in its current location?

I thought M&S would have moved to the site vacated by Woolworth. maybe the rent was too high.

The town centre pedestrian area will be fine when LCC manage to finish it
I don't think it took as long to build the pyramids.
The town is looking better in many areas and the councils plan in collaboration with Barnfield will build a lot of new housing on old brownfield sites. You're right about the central station area, that part needs doing soon. As a Manchester commuter I've noticed the M65 and M66 are much busier at peak times with hopefully newcomers now living here and travelling to work.

Structural Funds started early nineties so there'll be another twenty years of spending. Council will know but I'll see if Google throws up anything.

Agree about the Burnley central area. Not exactly a great welcome to the town. I remember last time we played Utd at home and got off the train there with some of their lot. Overheard one of them saying "f**kinell I thought Burnley was in east lancs, not Eastern Europe". That pub needs the same treatment as the mitre.

Are you talking about match day congestion? If you aren't you are exaggerating, the congestion around Burnley town center is rarely 'terrible'.
