It's in a 50 zone. NOT national speed limit. Even though your on a duel carriage way. The national speed limit starts a few hundred yards further up the hill. That's why plod are where they are!

Quite lucrative for them up there.

As Ringo says that small section is a 50 limit. But do watch out, they will move. They have a number of places where they regularly sit between Skipton and Harrogate. There can be sections where it is very tempting to exceed 60 but they have them all covered.

Disgustingly taxing, they know where to set up these days and take easy money of already extortionate motoring costs
Its not like someone going to be crossing there with a pram or something just money for old rope
if you get caught flashing vehicles in the opposite to warn of their presence they can do you and that's a deterrent in its own right slowing drivers down
Just shows they want to catch you

Keep to the speed limit and the vans are of no issue.

When we saw this yesterday it prompt a question to those in the car with me......

We had a motorbike behind us, as bikes don't have a licence plate on the front, how would they be done for speeding as the camera would be looking at the front of the vehicle?

Are mobile speed cameras only used to catch speeding motorists and not all road users? Looks to me like bikers have a free ride (pardon the pun).

The law on flashing motorists to warn them intrigues me, you would think that the already overstretched police force would be happy that citizens are doing their part in crime prevention.

I believe some of these speed cameras are used by volunteers

Right, so they involve citizens in crime detection then.

Know it's not always the case but some forces have "pick-up" points further down the road that the detector van contacts to say the bike has been clocked speeding.

Check Plod's poor efforts to justify their attempts to prevent motorists flashing a warning here:

I wish our wonderful police force was just as avid in harassing and pursuing the smarter and wilier - and less-easier to catch - career criminals.

There are crafty & have the cameras strategically placed. Most mornings there have 1 at the bottom of wyslick hill its obvious you are going to be picking up speed if you was unaware didnt use the route often you'd be jumping on yr brakes.

I disagree.

In and of itself speed doesnt kill. You can safely do over 70mph on the motorway if conditions suit.

Conversely you can be driving at 70mph on the motorway legally but it would be dangerous depending on the circumstances.

Misuse of speed kills. Unfortunately there are enough people out there who don't understand driving to the road conditions that mean we have cameras set up, even when the conditions are fine. We aren't allowed to make that judgment ourselves, and that's probably for the best.

I sometimes drive faster than the speed limit. If I got clocked by a camera then I'd have to hold up my hands and face the consequences rather than moaning about how 'unfair' it is online.

The pillocks aren't the people telling you not to go too fast in your tonne of portable speeding metal, they're the ones who drive them too fast at risk to both themselves and other people.
