Best view in our area

Yesterday the best views in the country were shown with the view from the top of Snowden being voted the best. Got me thinking about what is the best view around the Burnley area.

For me it would be from the top of Pendle hill looking across the Black Moss reservoirs or maybe from the top of Pasture Lane (between Barrowford and Roughlee) looking across to Pendle hill.

What is your favourite view?

The family and myself went up Snowdon last year. We went up on a steam train in brilliant sunshine, and at the top the air was so clear you could actually see the Isle of Man. I guess some of us are just more lucky than others.

I'm sure it was Snowdon where the cafe / shop at the top used to sell (it may still do) bottled Snowdon air.

A souvenir for the Yanks I expect.

Snowdon is cracking for its views. But depends on weather etc. Would argue that there are better views than the top.

The view from top of longside is great.

Crown point is ok wouldnt say best in burnley. Not dramatic anyway.

Heptonstall is good for views. Pendles not bad. Driving towards Hebden Bridge on the long causeway is pretty smart in summer or winter.

I guess it depends on time of year. You cant beat the view off the culvert in winter after a nightmatch for me. Terraced houses. Turf moor and the surrounding houses illuminated from the floodlights. Old pubs. The big old church. Snow capped hills. Great spot.

A group of us did a Snowden charity walk for Pendleside Hospice almost four years ago in glorious sunshine with magnificent views for miles around, until we were about a quarter of a mile from the summit when a bitterly cold mist came up from the other side. The best and worst of Snowden in one day.
My favourite area view is just past the Wells Springs from Clitheroe and as you reach the top above Sabden a wonderful vista opens out in front of you.

Stood on top of Snowdon 5 times, never had the view yet. One day?

As above for me. Crown Point looking over Burnley with Pendle Hill behind.
If you go up to the police masts on Hameldon Hill then go to the Burnley side it's a cracking view also.

The view up Stoodley Pike takes some beating especially at sunset. Was up there with my niece and sister last night.

Agree with you wholeheartedly. I absolutely love Pendle Hill. Have just been back in the UK for a family vacation and made a beeline for Pendle Hill. There is something spiritual about that place AND the witches` souls `wander the hill still to this day no doubt.

Pendle hill is spectacular when viewed from our (the Burnley) side. Have to confess my two favourite views of it are from noggarth and looking up to it over black moss.

She's a moody old girl. Sometimes on poor weather days she can look radiant, and on lovely days she can look all dark and forboding.

Either way, she's a looker.

Bewitching it certainly is! Regardless of the weather, I have always felt alive up there. My sister suffers from depression and I try to get her up there as much as possible - good for the soul and blows the cobwebs away.

You are both right. And no two days ever feel the same up there. For all the places ive ever been to I still love pendle. Must be something spiritual as you say.

In fact the first thing I always do on returning from Holiday is go to Pendle or Towneley Hall regardless of weather.

Just half a mile or so from where I live is one of my favourite views on a clear day.

Walk to the top of Sabden Road from the Four Alls turn off in Higham and from the top road climb on one of the dry stone walls. You can see from Nelson in the east to Blackburn in the west. Absolutely stunning on a sunlit day.

Or, of course, the other way coming from Burnley through Sabden and up to the nick of Pendle.
There`s a view of the Three Peaks on the right, Blackpool and fylde coast on left. Bowland fells in front

and southerners think it`s grim up narf!

One thing we can all agree on - the surrounding areas are as spectacular as anywhere in England. We are very lucky.

Some people who are not from this area really have no idea.

Anyway, my personal favourites:

Trough of Bowland; Barley village looking up to Pendle; Cliviger gorge; Side of Whalley nab (10 minutes walk from my house); view across Burnley on a Winters night with the Turf floodlights on;

I could go on, the list is endless.

Current favourite (thanks Claretdom) - the view of the bottom of the Championship looks very good.

UTC NNN.

I went to the singing ringing tree on a freezing clear day and looking down the Cliviger Gorge to Tod with the contrast of snow ice and rock was a stunning vista

Head to Colne then over the tops to Skipton just after the cattle grid before you drop down to Carleton.
On a clear day an absolutely stunning view of Noth Yorks,Lancs and the Cumbrian mountains in the distance.

Know this spot very well as my Uncle had a farm on Elslack Moor. Magnificent in good weather, sheer hell to gain access in bad conditions.
