Foreign Players and Brexit

I read everyday from my life in Spain how life in UK will never be the same and immigration will be controlled. Does that affect Premiership players and managers? I have seen nothing regarding football.

There is no way the government would be daft enough to limit the overseas players coming to play in the Premier league.

EU players will probably need work permits like non-EU players do now.

There have been comments from some of "top clubs" that they needed to have a "special deal" and be "exempt Brexit." But, the official Premier League (or FA) view is that the same rules should apply to "multi-millionaire" footballers as apply to everyone else, including all the other "skilled professions." I think Premier League/FA mentioned lawyers, architects and other professions as examples of skilled professions.

Of course, no one expects the EU footballers and managers who are already here to be required to leave.

And, I guess none of us are sure whether American managers/coaches will be leading Premier League teams again any time soon. ;)

Controlling immigration isn't, and never was, about barring foreigners from Britain. Not just footballers, but Nurses, Teachers, Factory workers, even fruit pickers will still be welcome, as always.
Controlling immigration is about ensuring the people coming here, are here to find purposeful employment and not just to live off benefits care of UKplc.
It also allows us to check into the background of people wishing to come here, so that the drug dealers, pimps and rapists can be barred.

Is that so hard to understand or agree with, it's only the remainers that want to paint this non existent picture of Britain post Brexit.

Don't you think they can do that now upon arriving via airports or ferry terminals, for example?

They just about all work and do jobs that lazy Brits think are beneath them...even though really they are all doctors!

We can do that, but the EU says we have to let them in anyway. Go figure. It's the same excuse that we can't kick them out when they start doing the same thing here.

If they are all in work then I have no problem with them.
I agree there are too many lazy Brits sucking up benefits, a different argument, but that doesn't justify importing some more.

It should be easy enough to see how long someone has lived and worked in this country before they are entitled to benefits, and as long as they have been contributing they've earned it. It's all about time. We put the cart before the horse which is wrong.

FMOP, (not just FMOL), will be a concession in the negotiations, I'm sure of it. I believe public opinion will sway in favour of remaining when this hits home.

Spot the Daily Mail reading UKIP member!

With regards to OP, there will be no change to EU footballers playing in the Premier League. In fact, there will be little change in general immigration until the economy starts tanking and then things will naturally start slowing up.

Its a good question really.

Will clubs have to prove that the players they want to bring in are more skilled then UK based players?
We've all seen foreign players who're no better then an English lad.

I never read the mail, and am still a card carrying Labour member, although I am seriously thinking of giving it up until Jeremy and his cronies have gone.
You say there will be little change in immigration, which is exactly what I said, and exactly the opposite of what remainers purport to be true.
The idea that Brexit won, through some mass xenophobic backlash is just plain ********. We need foreign workers, and will continue to need them in the future. If they wish to settle here long term, through their work, then I have no problem with that either.
There is a large, even if a small minority, of people who have come because we offer a free health service, free housing, free everything. Including sending child benefits back to the home land where it can equate to more than a weeks pay for some. We are powerless to remove them, and it's that powerlessness that is at the crux of the Brexit vote for a lot of people. Personally I had a whole host of reasons why I thought and still think , we are better off out of the EU.

I don't know how it'll be sorted in the real world. You'll assume some sort of deal will be made, but far below say Ireland, Scotland, Gibraltar, London Financial sector, Airlane Regulation, fishing quotas, Travel Visas, Security operations. military arrangements.. Et al. In the things to sort out.

Ones things for certain though.... It's playing havoc of my Fm17 game.

I probably read it in The Times - but that's possibly behind pay wall.

Same report in Daily Telegraph: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/201 ... rs-exempt/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I was inaccurate about it being "top" clubs: David Gold, West Ham and Peter Coates, Stoke are the two reported to urge PM to exempt EU footballers from immigration controls. It was day after Brexit letter sent.

The only really contentious issue on immigration that could change is free movement of EU citizens. Everything else, like immigration from outside the EU, which is more then half of the total of immigrants arriving, won't be affected by Brexit talks.

We have apparently been trying to control non-EU migration but that hasn't led to any real reductions.

We seem to be dependent on immigration to keep prices both down and up to the benefit of who exactly?
