She's pregnant with the lovechild of Nigel Farage. Wants the world to share the good news.

I think she'd win a General Election right now.

She'd win the General Election even if she spent the entire campaign off her head on acid.

- not sure we need an Election right now..there is enough going on.

She'd certainly win it, all the others are in complete disarray.

150+ majority if she calls it. She'd be mad not to and then she could do what she wants*

*whatever that is

Could well be an election call. Tories would get a big majority as shown by all the polls which are very favourable. It would then strengthen her hand going into Brexit talks.
Labour are in disarray and will lose many seats. LibDems recovering but still suffering from Clegg effects, UKIP on the wane.

The 'not London' district.

Perhaps she's announcing that they got the referendum results the wrong way round.

Labour support is at its lowest for many years. She should win a huge majority. That in turn will bring about the end of Jeremy Corbyn.

She needs a vote of no confidence or 2/3rds of MPs to vote for an election or she will need to repeal the act from 2010 Government that put in place fixed term parliaments to prevent the sitting Government calling elections when it best suited them.

She'd get two thirds easily. Tories looking to strengthen their position and a lot of Labour looking for a way to get rid of Corbyn.

Is there a real risk of Labour getting decimated in a general election if it was held soon?

I agree, the complete destruction of what's left of the electoral success of New Labour is probably the only way to force Corbyn out - depressing!

It's a very real likelihood. I do wonder if this would force another Labour leadership challenge though. Assuming the PM is announcing an election. They have no chance with him.

Snap general election on June 8th suggested, but would the other parties agree to it at such short notice??

Interesting that the Wiltshire farmers got their Tory posters up over the weekend but with the bottom covered, they probably have been informed.

Either a general election or resignation I guess, June 8th been mentioned a lot in the last 10mins.

Back on March 20th 2017:

There is no change in our position on an early general election, that there isn't going to be one... It is not going to happen. 'There is a Fixed-Term Parliaments Act. We have been clear that there isn't going to be an early general election and the Prime Minister is getting on with delivering the will of the British people.'

Election gets called..[bit opportunistic]

Corbyn [staring down the barrel] resigns this afternoon.

The Labour Party puts in place some temporary emergency [desperate, straw clutching] rules about 'leadership' and elect a new heavyweight, charismatic, popular, broad appeal leader by next Monday.

Labour win a May Election with a majority of 80 seats.

No? **

** - this is tongue in cheek and not serious, I hope that much is clear.

- here she comes..Election it is...8th of June.

Fair play to her, assuming she wins, it can stop the people like Sturgeon claiming she's no right to be leading etc.

Surely this will give the SNP further credence for their scottish referendum, if the PM can make time to go to the country for a general election, how can she refuse the SNP their referendum before the final brexit deal.

If this sees off Jeremy then I'm ok with it. Apart from the one party Tory state we'll have for five years.

Will she get 2/3rds of MPs to support it?

Tories only make up 50.7% of MPs

Slightly different circumstances though.

Sturgeon has been gobbing off that she's an elected leader whilst May wasn't.
Other people making the same sort of comments.

A Scottish independant referendum is a different animal altogether.

It isn't at all. It's all about exploiting Brexit to hold the Tory party together and secure a huge right-wing Tory majority. This has been the direction of travel in the Tory party for years.

I'd love to see Tiny Tim Farron right now.

He's jumped up and down like anglophobic, white flag waving surrender chimp. Huffing n puffing repeatingly going on about "it wasn't on the ballot paper. It wasn't on the ballot paper!!"

It's shown him and Sturgeon, for that matter, to be exactly what they are.

Inept, opportunistic, political pygmies.

That tw@t Farron now clamouring to use this [potential] Election to reverse the Brexit vote.

When will the deadline be for young people to join the electoral roll? Many who would be keen to vote will not be registered as yet, and would have been under no pressure to do so due to the Fixed term Parliament Act.
Six weeks is not very long.

Brexit probably could be reversed, but now we've invoked that Article I suspect it would cost us in regards to our current deals with the EU, they'd probably want to put us on the naughty step.

Labour and Liberal could include in their manifesto, a committment for another referendum. I doubt they could include a committment to ignore the referendum result, though.

As for the practicalities, I think Article 50 is just a notice of intention to quit and could be withdrawn. We're still members of the EU and I don't know whether the EU could stop us withdrawing the resignation.

This isn't a lie. If you say one thing in March and then in April say you've changed your mind, that's a change of mind, not a lie.
