I can't imagine Jessica Ennis-Hill being too impressed but Ched Evans is set to sign for Sheffield United from Chesterfield

They were on the verge of promotion before his original arrest/trial, so he deserves a crack at the championship.

Does seem strange to sign a league 1 striker with 5 goals in 25 games.

"so he deserves a crack at the championship."
I think even he will have had enough of cracks for a while.

Yet media darling Ennis-Hill still can't do any wrong in some people's eyes.

Not Ennis-Hill's biggest fan by any stretch, however, when The Blades were linked with him after his release he was still a convicted rapist. I can understand why she would have been averse to having her name associated with the club & Ched Evans himself.
This was obviously widely debated at the time and the conviction has since been quashed so I imagine her stance on the matter will have changed.
Good luck to Ched. The way he has conducted himself in public since the conviction was overturned has been excellent .

Didnt Pollyanna threaten to have her name removed from the stand?

I will second that Andy. Good luck to Ched in this step up in re building his career.

Not funny. Pity there isn't a dislike button on this message board.

I know all about irony pal. Just think it is in bad taste. That's all. No offence taken though.

What a stupid name. Definitely came from someone dropping a tin of spaghetti hoops.

Jessica Ennis should apologise for having been a bigot.

I know right! How dare she be unhappy about her team signing a convicted rapist.
I expect she has changed her opinion on him now he has cleared his name. However with the info available at the time she made the right call. No apology needed for me.

Evans may not be a convicted rapist, but there are still sound reasons for not wanting him anywhere near you or your club. I accept his conduct was on the right side of the fine line that turns drunken sex into rape, and I always did believe that; but it doesn't mean that what he did was right, only that it wasn't illegal.

No. In between him being convicted and the conviction being quashed everybody was quite within their rights to call him a rapist. He was referred to as such by the media and by plenty of people on the old messageboard. Now it is quashed we cannot call him a rapist. However, we weren't wrong to do so at the time. Nobody needs to apologise to him apart from his solicitors from the first time around.

He was innocent - he should be sympathised with, he lost the best years of his career.
You could see all along that the woman was a ****** up footballer shagger.

It's attitudes like this that put most raped women off from pressing charges. I hope you never end up on a jury if any female I love has the misfortune to suffer such a crime.

If she was my daughter and been stupid enough to get drunk and had what happened happen with people taking video etc of it Ched would not play football again. Hes a Cad and opens him self to retribution. So I too would become a person of dubious actions.
Legally he may have been cleared of what he did but no normal man would do that and any who say they would have to accept they are wrong in moral action.

There was actually lots of info available at the time online. CCTV of her running in 6 inch heals to get a pizza laughing and joking when she was meant to be so **** faced she could barely walk as well as evidence of deleted messages she sent to her friend on Facebook on the night of the incident. She lied about the amount she had to drink and claimed to of been spiked which she later changed her mind when CCTV from the club and blood test proved to be wrong. She also posted on Facebook how she would buy her and her best friend a matching pink Mini Cooper when she recieved her compensation from the trail, before it even started which doesn't sound like the actions of someone who has been raped but of a money digging slag.

just goes to show how careful people in sport/entertainment need to be in their "private" lives.
He was very stupid, and paid for his stupidity. An expensive lesson, although I imagine he has been well compensated financially by now.

Which is all well and good - however a court of law found him guilty the first time around. As I've said earlier, the only person who should be apologising is his legal team for failing to win the first trial using evidence such as this.

Why on Earth would they sign him? Aside from the whole PR risk he's a 28 year old striker who has played one season in 5 years scoring 5 goals for a team that was relegated to League 2. How does any club that just won promotion to the Championship ,racking up 100 points and scoring 92 goals in the process, look at him and think he's just what they need to add to their team?
Either he still has friends at Sheffield Utd and this is nothing more than a jobs for the boys signing or it is just some hugely expensive trolling exercise. Either way, it makes little or no football or business sense.
