Thank God, there is a decent full back in there but he's a liability at times.

Thought he did well today.... And as for the Penalty.... No way he had his foot firmly behind the ball...Zaha was a disgrace, he jumped in the air and spun 180 degrees

Thought he did well picked the speed of game up very well and did a lot of the ugly stuff well though he did what he had to today if you can single him out in that performance then some will never be happy UTC

Zaha got what he deserved today.. nothing!
Ref knew he would roll at any given chance

Saha waited for some sort of contact, then spun, and went down like the cheat he can be.
Great player, but what bloody con artist.

Gotta cut him some slack because of course he's not played much.

Bearing that in mind, i thought he was very good.

FFS give the guy a chance. Not had much game time and came on and did ok. Yes one clear foul but one that Ward may have committed in same situation. Let's just celebrate a good away day and leave Flanagan alone. He is a claret for now and giving his all for the cause.

Probably Flanagans toughest challenge as a Burnley player to date and he never let the side down

Like many, I worried when he came on especially as Ward was having such a good game but he put in the shift and came out on top and for that performance 3 points and a clean sheet he has proved it was worth him being a claret for a year and may start next week too if Ward needs time to recover.

Stuart Pearce said he had a good game, was very complimentary.

I didn't see it and I'm not an expert, but Pearce did see him play and being a former fullback he's definitely qualified to say Flanagan played well.

Clearly you think Flanagan played poorly today Diesel, however no one seems to agree with you. Just try and celebrate today's performance and applaud all of our players who gave their all for the Claret cause today.

put in "the" shift that was required which is slightly different in my meaning to putting in a shift, the defence was drilled to play in a certain style to neutralise the threats of Benteke and Zaha. Coming into the game when he did on half time with hardly a competitive game all season takes some doing, him and Tarks deserve praise today in my opinion.UTC

The penalty shout was rightly turned down, in my opinion Flanagan is playing the ball, the attacking player arrives a split second afterwards; good refereeing.

I thought he played well today, but I can understand some of the criticism of him in the sense that he has always been hyped up as a Liverpool legend, and he's not up to that standard (yet). With a run of games I am certain he could be much better than he has been, let's not forget how long he was out for before coming to us.

If we have an option to buy, I wouldn't object if SD decides he's worth it

Just back from the game. Must say I was bricking it when Ward went down for the 2nd time and had to go off. The first action Flan had- he backpedalled to a into a nice position under a ball and then a cushioned a header to a colleague- settled me and him down. I thought he did well; not as assured as Ward and not our best defender but under the circumstances he should be happy with what he did & deserved his corn.

Agree with Diesel, I'm afraid. Flanagan wasn't good and if the ref wasn't hopeless Palace would have had a penalty.

When he came on I feared the worst. I commented that BFS would almost certainly switch Zaha to that side in the second half. In the first 10 minutes I thought he was poor, rash at times and clumsy on the ball. But in the final half hour or so I thought he played an important role in neutralising Palace's only real threat. He did very well under the circumstances today and I've been his harshest critic to date.

I havnt been a Flanagan fan at all and feared the worst when he replaced Ward who I thought was outstanding. He played very well and no way was that a penalty at all.

Are you saying it was a penalty because what Flanagan did to Zaha made him fly a foot into the air and crash to the turf? Or are you saying it was a penalty because Flanagan touched Zaha and this was immediately followed by Zaha flying a foot into the air and crashing to the turf?

Remember that there are hundreds of times in each game when two players touch in the penalty area. They aren't all penalties. And if two players do touch, and it's not a foul, it can't suddenly become a foul because one of the players falls over in a spectacular manner.

If Flanagan kicked Zaha into the air, it's a foul. If he made incidental contact and Zaha jumped into the air, or if Zaha was trying a clever turn and fell over off balance, then it's not a foul. I can't honestly see how anyone (except Ian Wright, who doesn't know the rule anyway) could think that what Flanagan did caused Zaha to fall over in that spectacular manner.

As for the original post about how well he played - we were under pressure for the second half, with Zaha, a very good player in excellent form on Flanagan's wing, and we didn't let any goals in. That's good enough for me.

Diesel-the reason I thought he was immense today was that I had been disappointed by him in previous games. He stuck to his job, fearless in the tackle and up against two in form PL wingers.

Flanagan battled well today but he's miles away from being good enough. He gave the ball away too frequently, was rash in the tackle and is generally a split second too slow to everything.

Massive win today and he played his part, but just as I won't say every player is awful when we lose I won't pretend every player is great when we win. I'd be disappointed if we tried to sign him this summer. I'd be very surprised if he's playing Premier League football next season.

up against one of this seasons most improved players and after a nervy start he had him. so much so that Zaha switched sides and then Lowton, my MOM, had him.

First of all, he came on with a terrific attitude, instead of sulking because he's hardly played. (must congratulate Tarkowski on this too).
Secondly, he was up against one of the best wingers in the PL in Zaha
And thirdly, he performed pretty well against both Zaha and everyone else he came against.

Don't know if he's going back to Liverpool, but if he stays and does a Dyche pre-season, I wouldn't be surprised if he starts to provide competition for both Lowton and Ward next season

Palace went into the game without key defenders, we started without one and played for 45 minutes without another.

The performance levels of those replacement players, theirs and ours, was the difference in the end. Flanagan wasn't perfect by any means but he stuck diligently to the job and limited Zaha's considerable threat. Having Arfield in front helped him as well.

Flanagan did well. Saha was going going down at the first opportunity, he won a free kick in the first half outside our box, there was no contact, he slipped. Graham Poll's view was no penalty, he said the ref has to be 100% sure before making a decision and the way Zaharias threw his legs up was not convincing. Well done to Flannagan, it's not easy coming in, picking the game up on top of that having to mark Zaha.

Looks like I'm in the minority in that I actually agree with Diesel. I thought it was a real struggle for Flanagan and had that pen been given I imagine there wouldn't have been quite as much praise (and I do feel it was a penalty). Some of Flanagan's challenges looked a bit clumsy and desperate but to be fair, he was up against some really tricky Palace players and hadn't played for a while. Must have been tough.

Zaha is a cheating twonk and Flanagan did well against him. Another player who did brilliantly to help us win our first away game this season.

Like many I feared the worst when Flanagan came on, as I did about the game in general, but like that game, my fears were unfounded, and like the rest of the players, Flanagan did all that was asked of him.

Zaha and Palace tried to take advantage down our left but, with Arfield's and others support, nothing really serious materialised, so much so that Palace and Zaha moved to our right to try there.

Well done Jon Flanagan.
