Can anyone remember when and who chartered the Burnley "staying down forever" light aircraft banner from the bar Stewards?
I think I was on the bee hole at the time but my mind may be playing tricks on me.
Can anyone shed some light on this one?

Play off semi V Torquay. Believe it was a whip round to pay for it, one of them used to post on roversmad but seemed to vanish a few years ago

flyingclub87 or similar was his user name.

No we don't want to tempt fate like they did, karma has well and truly bitten them on the arse.
Here's to hopefully staying up again next season, we can't take anything for granted

22nd May 1991, 4th Division play-off 2nd leg against Torquay.
We'd lost 2-0 at Plainmoor, in the first leg on the 19th. In the very early days of Satellite TV, neither game was televised. To be fair, the Club put up a big screen and beamed the game back to the Turf, but the picture was shocking, if I recall ...
Torquay went on to beat Blackpool on penalties at Wembley...

The other person beside Simon Garner involved in the escaped was a chap called Frank Miller, who runs some fund raising events for BRFC. The funny thing about all this is that as long standing Secretary of Morecambe FC I did have chance to get a small amount of revenge for Garner's prank
It was the first game of the season, round about 1996-97 and we played at home to Woking. The Woking Chairman came to my office prior to the game and asked if it was possible that one of their new players, Simon Garner, could have some complimentary tickets as all his family, 4 or 5 of them lived locally, he understood that we didn't normally offer complimentary tickets to away players(this was commonplace in the Football Conference) but he asked if I could make an exception in this instance. I didn't say much, I just said to the Woking Chairman to ask the player come to my office to see me.
The said player, Simon Garner, came to my office, all smiles, and introduced himself, I introduced myself, and added, "Secretary of Morecambe FC and life long Burnley supporter", He just smiled, shook may hand, said "fair play mate", and walked out of my office without asking about any tickets.

One thing that is actually quite likeable about Simon Garner is that he hates us about as much as we hate him.
You have to admire that in a way, as he's a fan first and foremost.

We should have organised a whip around on here to fund something similar for their game at Brentford. It would have been amazing if timed to perfection, the moment they were confirmed relegated.

I'm fairly certain one Ian Battersby also had something to do with it too - allegedly. The one who is looking to buy Rovers at present. He was good mates with Garner at the time and their wives ran a fashion boutique together in Nelson if my memory serves me right.

You're right Ridge. I worked with Ian Battersby for a while in the early 00s. I nearly wet myself when he was on Sky on Monday. Fair play to him, he's a proper football fan, just born in the wrong place by about 12 miles

I went on a night out with Dunn when he first got in the Blackburn side. His best mate was a Burnley fan and we used to play cricket against him when he was at Harwood. Blackburn was still a decent night out and busy when a No Ney Never chant off started.
Fair play to him.

Garner was involved in a clothes shop think it was in Cherry Tree called Rococo's or something like that that ended up going bust. His shop was paid a few visits at night.

Isn't it just the most fantastic sense of irony, that exactly 30 years on from the Orient game, after listening to all their smug gloating/ the plane/ Garner/ Dunn/ Hendry, etc, etc whilst we were patiently clawing our way back, they've had it well and truly shoved so far up 'em, you can see daylight.
Haven't they all gone so quiet ? Where have they all gone ? Oh, can anyone remember when they last beat us ? nope, me neither.
£120,000,000 and counting. Bye bye bas turds. You reap what you sow.

The second verse of NNN is quite prophetic
Ewood Park is now empty, it's getting knocked down,
******* Rovers play their games on a piece of waste ground,
Tony Mowbray on the touchline - says something's not right
There's far more players than supporters in sight.
The prophecy of the Ginger one who will bring balance, and restore freedom

We should think of something better and more outrageous to do. Simply copying their stunt would bring us down to their level. I hated it when it happened but I did have a sneaking admiration for their cheek and creativity at the time. It was a shocking and clever stunt and we'd have to go a long way to beat it...... grrrr I hated saying that though.
