Andre Gray is happy at Burnley

Can someone tell that to the eyes of the body language experts?

He's also still learning and contract talks will begin at the end of the season.

I just thought that I would bring some good news after the awful week us Burnley fans have had to endure.

Things are looking up for once.

Nah the body language experts at Turf Moor have been banging on that Gray wants to leave, is unhappy and will be off in the summer.

I'm confused now about who to believe.

Just watched that interview (on Clarets Player, for those that are wondering). Not one to read too much into anything in football, as things change so quickly- but looked as positive and relaxed as a coiled spring like Andre could appear.

I hope he stays. Has attributes that most of our direct competition would desire, and tons of growth left in him.

So long as he manages to trap that bag of cement and take it with him.

Andre and Steven Defour were both seen in a Chinese takeaway in Brierfield last night.
Obviously they are both angling for a lucrative move to Beijing Athletic.
True story.

And here's me thinking that his control of the ball on receiving it has improved considerably as the season has progressed

Easy, obvious dig at the guy who fired us up and has helped keep us up. When he masters that skill, unlikely he'll be at Burnley for too much longer.

That has probably got more to do with his pay packet being so large!

You need to stop chasing that dragon, it's hindering your ability to see a humorous comment.

What we need is a physical, quick, strong striker with an eye for goal who we can develop and build a team around.

Oh hang on we already have one - Andre Gray.

His return this season has been good. 9 goals in his first prem season for a team who dont play directly to his strengths and have very little creativity. (Not a criticism of us). This is on top of a 4 game ban and numerous sub appearences.

To replace him would cost us millions.

His career path is very similar to Jamie Vardy but at a far younger age. Gray is 25. Vardy was at Fleetwood at 25.

Burnley fans who criticise and question him must have very high expectations already.

They are comparing him to Ings who played a full season and got just a couple more goals from memory.

The goals tally from the strikers is fine, helped by a high number of penalties but you still have to score them.

Goals from midfield is a slight problem.

Yep another one really happy with Gray and his contribution this season overall.

There's room for improvement like with all our players but I'm confident that he will continue to get better & better for us.

We haven't played the sort of football that would see any striker hit 20 goals this season. Other than the Sunderland game we have sat deeper and deeper once we go a couple of goals up. Our forwards are dragged back to help our defence whenever the opposition have a dead ball situation or any sustained period of attacking.

He has scored a around a quarter of our PL goals this season despite, as has been mentioned previously, missing 4 games through his twitter ban and being a substitute on many occasions. He has met all the requirements for being a premier league striker IMHO

I hope that isn't a serious comment?

If it is then you'll never find that light switch.

I'll just double check what league we are in............

Are you saying our style of football this season should have seen someone scoring 20 this season?

We have played the way we do because it maximises the limited quality of our squad when playing against some of the best players around. Not a criticism of our players rather an acknowledgement of the reality of the League we are playing in.

No, what I'm saying is it wouldn't matter how we played our football, with the players we have (I love them all) we wouldn't see any of our forwards score 20 this season. It's the Premier League, and not the Championship.

If Gray can score 9 for us there is no reason he wouldnt more than double that in a free flowing attacking side. None at all.

Here's some of the names who have scored 20 plus goals in a season in the Premier League since 2000, please stop me when you think one has played for a club similar to Burnley.........

Henry
Van Nistelrooy
Saha
Ronaldo
Drogba
Torres
Adebayor
Bent
Tevez
Berbatov
Rooney
Van Persie
Suarez
Aguero...........

If we're including Sunderland (at that time) as similar to Burnley, then it's Bent and Johnson.

So it's the norm then for forwards at similar clubs to Burnley to score 20 plus goals in the Premier League.

It's just a line from a song that I enjoy, no tripping here.

No way I could deduce it was humour from this thread- but apologies that I came to the wrong conclusion that you were having a needless dig at Grey.

Loads of players who have moved through the leagues (like Gray) have scored 20 in the prem. Gray is easily capable of that. We create the least chances in the league and he still has 9.

Andy Cole, Sheringham, Ferdinand, Dean Holdsworth, Andy Johnson, Darren Bent, Jamie Vardy, Stan Collymore, ian Wright, kevin phillips, etc

Even the likes of Marcus Stewart, Dj campbell have scored 15 to 20 goals.

What I think would be more relevant to this discussion would be to see how many forwards have scored 15/20 goals in a season when there team has finished in the bottom half.

If I get time will try to do this for last 10 seasons. Guessing I would be able to count them on one hand

Last 3 seasons

Lukaku - Everton - 18 goals - 11th
Austin - QPR - 18 goals - 20th
Bony - Swansea - 17 goals

Might also be a fairer comparison if he is compared to players in newly promoted sides as oppose to strikers playing for top 8 sides.

Wonder how many of Bournemouth, Watford & Norwich last season + Hull & Boro this season have a 20 goal striker in their side or even a player who managed to get into double figures. Watford had 2 last seaon not sure if anybody else did.

Gray has done well this season and i'd be delighted if he signed a new contract (although i havent actually seen anything that confirms the OP).

If he does stay, and if we can add a slightly more crafty, Sheringham type to play off him, provide that aerial target but also provide a better quality of pass from deep, then Gray will get more goals next season.

I see that the goalposts are being moved.

Soon it'll be loads of players have scored 9 goals in a season for a newly promoted side (oh hang on), and I will have to find a DeLorean to go into the future to see how Gray's getting on.

I've always had a feeling Gray wouldn't be here very long but if he does extend his stay then fair play to him! I think he came across very well in the interview on ClaretsPlayer. While I wouldn't be averse to selling if a very good offer came in, I'd rather he stayed as I think he can get better and better, particularly if we can improve our service to him.

Havent moved any goal posts. Just reiterating my point. Loads of players like Gray have scored 20 goals.

I never said he will get 20 for us. I said he is capable of getting 20 at this level. A distinct difference.

If we played more expansive football then of course, no reason he couldnt get them for us!

He is a very good player and we are lucky to have him

Right oh then, I think we are near enough on the same page.

Although it won't matter about whether we play expansive football or not, he'll have to start more than 27 games to be scoring 20 plus goals I'd say.
