Just curious, anyone know roughly how much the pundits earn covering football?
That danny murphy along with a few others has managed to get hinself into a tight little clique , he pops up on MOTD and does the talk sport shows regularly too.
Shearer obviously has a lengthy connection with the BBC now, but there seems to be a need to hire the same mob for everything.
Now dross like sutton has got in on the act. Do you reckon they have agents badgering the tv and radio producers on their behalf?
They mainly state the obvious, and when on talk sport they come across as mindless jesters who will jump through any hoop for the sake of a payment.
There is someone called bob mills on there too, not an ex pro, but possibly THE most inept presenter i have ever heard. I caught five mins of one of his shows with a nobody sidekick, it was painfully bad radio.
The programmers must decide, well this bunch are all "laddish" and love golf anecdotes, lets get them on everything possible .
MOTD, I know its not just a case of turning up and sitting there for an hour, but it appears to be a right money spinner for some extremely tedious amateurs.

Can't stand pundits,the majority always trying to be controversial...always stating the obvious,my main bug bear is on their analysing mistakes over and over again.its so tedious instead of complimenting the positives they thrive on ridicule....and constantly put people's jobs on the line.

For match coverage, I've been told that one-off studio guests tend to get £250. I was also told it quite common that the fee his passed on to a good cause, it was with a Burnley Football Club employee and I gathered it was quite normal.

I would suggest that the figure quoted by claptrapper is way off the mark. £250.00, after the pundits have paid tax at 45% they would have nothing left. It has been suggested to myself, by a match commentator, that the figure for doing a Sky match slot(if not contracted to Sky) is in the region of £3k. Wouldn't expect BT to be far behind that, BBC will lag behind in the pay stakes, but still much in excess of £250.00

A 'gravy train' isn't it? An exclusive 'men's club' of the 21st century for which there appears to be endless opportunities for dubious 'characters' to babble,giggle and bluff their way into the hearts of the nation.

It is a very shoddy group they constantly use. Overpaid whatever the fee.

I once met Danny Mills as he was doing some promo work for Jet2, and we got filmed for a Look North feature. He told us that he'd basically do anything for cash.

Hansen, Shearer, Lawrenson and Lineker were, according to public records, on £1 million a season for spouting their dreary, corporate-friendly, pro-Premier League guff on Match of the Day. After Hansen and Larenson were given the heave-o, Lineker's annual fee (paid by us) went up to £2million. What a bargain!

I'm comfortable with paying a million to get shot of Lawrenson.

If they didn't get viewing/ listening figures, they would have to reassess their expenditure.

As it is, their "popularity" is being boosted by someone who watches/ listens just in order to complain about it.

The BBC employ idiots like Sutton and Savage to deliberately annoy the audience to the point where they phone in or text etc

This gets audience interactivity - which is exactly the aim of the programme producers.

So in that regard, Sutton and Savage do an excellent job.

Obviously if you're a vaguely intelligent sort of football fan you just go and get yourself another beer whenever they come on

And every goal is a defensive error or a goalkeeper blunder or a fluke. Rarely is it good skill or creativity. This has crept its way into the fans who now criticise everything.

To call them 'pundits' is abuse of a good Sanskrit word. Originally a pandita meant a wise or enlightened individual who had realised the absolute truth and looked on the world with equal vision. Just like Chris Sutton.

The only information i know of was when Shearer couldn't make it to one of MOTD shows a few years back and some of the papers complained about him getting £2k per show even if he didn't turn up. I would imagine that was the upper echelons of salaries for pundits.
