Cricket - ICC Champions Trophy

Post by tybfc » Tue Jun 06, 2017 3:03 pm

Anybody got any idea why all of the games are being played at The Oval in London, Edgbaston in Birmingham and Sophia Gardens in Cardiff?

Is it all due to money that no Northern grounds get a look in at any of these games?

In fact why all the group matches and then the semis and then the final are all divided amongst the same three grounds.

Noticed that myself a while back, when looking through the fixtures,, Ty.
Had hoped to nick a day at OT. (Can't believe a good 'un wouldn't be on there)

Money is increasingly the primary object of the summer game these days.
Guess cricket's withered as a sport for many years now.
All the new formats are just kinda subject to the finance that's put into it.
Sad for an old format cricket lover, but true.

It's been raining at Cardiff on and off all day and they have just played through it.

Happen as well it's down at Cardiff - they wouldn't have got the covers off up here.

I see Lord's has missed out on this as well - amazed they haven't got the final.

Think same 3 grounds last time it was here. As far as I remember the idea is that they're within a short distance of each other ..1.5 hours rings a bell.

I've a broad knowledge of the geography and doubt on some days you would even make the M4 from the Oval car park in 1.5 hours never mind Cardiff or Birmingham.

Perhaps Manchester, Leeds and Durham would have sufficed as a change or do we not count for being up North?

I would think it is closer to four hours between Cardiff & the Oval.

Agreed the north doesn't seem to get a lookin for international one-day cricket but, on a positive note, England are doing well and look a good all-round team.
