Ground photo request

Post by Sykoclaret » Mon Jun 12, 2017 6:52 pm

Hi Fellow Clarets. I am looking for a good quality, high resolution pic of Turf Moor to use as the cover for my soon to be published, third in the series, Premier League diary. Anybody out there got anything suitable that won't infringe any copyright issues? Unfortunately, the photo would have to be supplied free of charge, but you would have the honour of it being displayed on a potential bestseller!

Can I have a free copy of your book.. You would get the honour of knowing you have given a book to potentially someone who may sell it on ebay for some profit?

I think you should ask BFC. They will surely be able to help. If there are no legal issues maybe get one of the aerial photography companies that use drones

People say that to me now and again "I can't pay for it though". So you want me to give you my image for free that I took on 7 grands worth of equipment and edited on software that costs 300 quid plus ? Yeah course I will

Already asked the club bfcmik, they supplied a couple but unfortunately they were unsuitable. Problem with pictures from the web is there may be copyright issues. That's why I thought I'd try here. Thanks all for the suggestions, some more useful than others.

You can buy through the site for around £10 or send me £3 directly which is about what I get from a sale of that kind.

Sooo.... Someone asks for some help from hobbyists and enthusiasts etc then gets a load of abuse because he's not going to pay £100s for a favour?

2nd lot of pics, 2nd row, middle pic of Cricketfields is an absolute belter.
No fixture board or people in the way.

Captures what Burnley/Turf Moor is all about in that one picture IMO.

Would love that as a print.

Why not ask the club if you can take your own photos?

In the pre-internet days I wrote to the club asking if I could get access to the ground to take some photographs. I got a phonecall a couple of days later from Albert Maddox saying I could visit any time I wanted and I'd be most welcome. The moral: ask nicely and nice things happen. It also means I have a great collection of 1991 photographs with the Cricket Field Stand sponsored by Hanson Offset Machinery. Trips off the tongue, eh?

john'sroseyspecs I've done that in reverse. I made a patent application for an artificial imagination and nobody was interested, so I took it into the garden, held it up to the sky and said:

"Look Aliens. When the light years have past and your telescope sees this, you will know that once there was intelligent life on Earth."

except, unless labelled ©, a picture is a picture. any muppet can stand in the same position with similar equipment and get a similar image. i understand how galling this is for professionals but sadly it's true.

You don't have to label your photos to claim copyright over them, it's automatically becomes your copyright when you take the photo and can't be undone without a specific contract signing it away to a third party.

Yes someone could take exactly the same photo but you still own your photo and they still own theirs.

The © is meaningless in the context of copyright on photographs. You automatically get copyright for original photography. (Hopefully no-one has actually followed your made-up advice or else they could have a bit of a bill coming.) https://www.gov.uk/copyright/overview" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

For searching for images, one source is flickr. You can search for keywords and also search which licence they should have. A large number of images on there are free, even for commercial use.

Except thats definitely not the case. Photigraphers spend years even a career to find that defining photograph. Its a skill. An art in fact. Anyone can take a picture of course. But to get a great photo you need an eye. The right kit. Experience and patience. I can understand why a professional would be upset if someone just sgole their work.

The patience of waiting until someone clears off out of short, or studying wildlife behaviour to get the image you want.

Not forgetting, getting the lighting right, knowing when the light has got that something special. Being in the right place at the right time isn't luck.

I get asked similar questions a lot. Can you do me a good deal this time, I've got xxx jobs coming up, my friend needs some work as well soon I will put a good word in, it's a prestigious project think of the publicity, it's for a charity........

Can understand your frustration. Its the same accross all sorts of industries where people think they can do it themselves.

Ground photo request

Post by johnalexander » Tue Jun 13, 2017 6:23 pm

Hi syko, I have a picture of the dressing rooms at the turf. Sadly they do include a picture of a sad old git - but you could edit him out! I also have a picture of your seat from the singing ringing tree. However, you are not in that one. For a small fee (free copy of the tremendous forthcoming epic) you may use either of them. Let me know

Totally wrong. You cannot just use an image 'found' on the internet. The copyright remains with the photographer. Many professionals and photo libraries (like Getty) have access to software that scans the internet for illegal use their images. They then invoice the user via solicitors and the going rate is around £1,000 for illegal use of an image.

There are many photo libraries that only charge a token amount and even a few free image sites. Use those. Alternatively, contact the photographer and get written permission to use their image.
